mildly sweet perfumey arom, makes you take notice. a darker iced tea colored beer with no haze. yes, some sweetness on the first taste too. not too many ill effects in this beer except that it may be a little too sweet, almost cloying but not quite. seems to want to let you know that it is more than 5% in alky content. i guess i’m surprized that i haven’t tasted this yet but i think i got it mixed up w/another one of a hundred blue moon spinoffs. decent co2, makes this a little more acceptable on the finish.

Bottle @ home, picked up at Supermarket Liquor Fort Collins. Pours a reddish orange appearance with a light brown head. Caramel, banana, nutty aroma. Kind of chewy, toasted caramel malty, light candy sugar, slightly fruity, nutty flavor. Bleh.

bottle - Pours clear amber with a small off white head. It has a mild caramel malt aroma. The flavor is sweet and light with a little caramel. It’s light bodied, smooth, and okay to drink but not worth getting again unless the other options are really bad.

Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle poured into a trappist glass. Pours clear chestnut brown with small off-white head. Aroma is light caramel, medium body, medium carbonation, and thin small bubble lacing. Taste is caramel, some toffee, and a hint of dark candy sugar. Not bad for blue moon line, but needs lots more flavor.

12 oz bottle. Aroma consists of caramel, toffee, raisins. Pours a ruby red hue with a medium beige head that falls after a minute. Taste is sweet and caramelly with no bitterness. Mouthfeel is creamy, body is fairly thin. Not all that bad, really. --- Beer merged from original tick of Blue Moon Abbey Ale on 16 Sep 2012 at 19:29 - Score: 6

Bottle. Nutty brown sugar malt and light spicy/herbal aroma. Chestnut brown with moderate head. Sweet caramel malt and mildly bitter herbal hops flavor. Not bad but no Belgian characteristics - more just a straight forward brown ale.

Bottle from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours clear copper with an off-white head that left quickly. Aroma is sort of light treacle. Med body more or less. Flavor is very sweet. Treacle moving to caramel moving to toffee. I used to think those were all about the same, but this brew illustrates my error. It’s really too sugary (I can’t use malty). Meh.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a dark amber color with a small bubbly beige head. Light toasted malt flavor with hints of yeast and burnt sugar. More sweet toasted malt flavor with tangy caramel backdrop. Some raisin and plum notes. Vanilla undertones. Finishes with a buttery malty mouthfeel.

Part of their Brewmaster’s seasonal sampler for winter 2013-14. Pours a clean copper colour with a creamy-fizzy off-white head that stays quite a while and leaves thick lacing. Mild roasted malt nose with hints of spices. You can taste more the roasted malt but the finish is quick. A little sweetness from the caramel notes. Not a bad ale, but not even close to being an Abbey.
