Location: Draft at RnH, 2/19/11

Aroma: Not much going on aroma-wise, light malty notes
Appearance: It pours an amber color with a smallish head
Flavor: The taste has some caramel/toffee, touch of yeast
Palate: The body is slightly sticky, a touch watery, nothing special
Overall Impression: Overall, this stuff wasn't particularly exciting at all. Another fairly unimpressive offering from Gearys. At this point I really shouldn't be disappointed.

12 ounce bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville, VA, opened 10/5/10. Pours a clear ruby color with a medium creamy brown head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of caramel, spice and diacetyl. The taste is bitter malts, caramel, raisins, and a bit of spice. Medium bodied.

Draught at Pony Bar, New York
Brown color. The aroma is too light. Dry and dark caramel flavor; strong bitterness; the final is very dry. Boring.

2006 Bottle:
Deep amber in colour with a strong copper, ruby and orange tint. All topped by a one centimetre tan head. Really nice looking! Aroma of cardboard, corn syrup, stale malt, old hops and some gross candy. Light-bodied; Strong bitter metallic flavour with really potent malt and nut tastes that lasts quite a while and tastes horrible in the mouth. Aftertaste shows a really strong and offensive beer that isn’t worth drinking at all. Overall, definitely worth passing this one up. I didn’t like it one bit after the appearance. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased at Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 22-September-2006.

Pours mahogany brown into a shaker. Pancake head with medium retention recedes to skim surface leaving no lacing. Sweet caramel and chocolate malt aromas. Crisp with sweet nut caramel and candy corns upfront. Lasting chocolate hop middle and an odd cloying chalky sourness in the finish.

12oz bottle. Deep brown-amber color. Toffee aroma. I found this to be quite a nice full-bodied Brown ale. Rich and malty on one hand, but the solid hop backbone really balances it into something solid. My bottle is a little past it’s prime, but the beer manages to hold up quite well. Has some good nutty character as well. Good beer.

Butterscotch and grain aroma. Tea colored, no head. Tastes of cheese and medium roasted malt. Bark finish. Off flavors. Pretty poorly made.

Bottle. Smell of malt and caramel. Fruity flavor, with a slight hint of chocolate and caramel. Took a few sips before I enjoyed the entire flavor of the beverage.

[re-rate - it’s been a while since I’ve had this, and I must say that either my tastes have changed, or this beer has improved - subtle dark fruits and light caramel fill what I once thought was a void - nice yeasty, bready qualities abound - not fantastic, but certainly under-rated] Looks smells and tastes like an oktoberfest as an ale - it’s interesting, but that doesn’t make it good - slight sweet nuttiness and a touch of toasted bread float atop a base flavor that I can only describe as "liquid nothingness" - there’s just nothing there holding this ale together - I like geary’s, but this is a miss with me.
