Notes from 2/13/09. Growler fill from New Beer Distributors into my off-centered DFH tumbler. Two inches of lumpy, off-white foam atop a perfectly clear honey copper body. Isolated, inkblot lace. Smell is toasted caramel & doughy malt, & a backend spiced with pepper & fresh herbal hop notes. Taste is simple cracker-ish sweetness, slightly soured mash, salt, & a bittergreen & chalked finish that doesn't linger. Carbonation is right where I need it. Body gives a feel of hard water. Plenty easy. Don't think it's quite strong enough BBQ lubricant though.

Drought at Blue Smoke. Rich yellow with off-white small foamy head, little malt aroma, low carbonation, slightly spicy taste, medium finish. Not bad for a blend.

Tap at Blue Smoke, the original venue, 24/11/13. Lightly hazed golden amber with a moderate off white head. Nose is toasted malts, caramel, floral hop notes, orange. Taste comprises toasted malt, biscuit, caramel crumble, dark citric fruit tones. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry finale with light bitter notes. Clean and drinkable but a little boring.

Location: Draft at Blue Smoke, 10/30/09
Aroma: A fairly standard caramel malty nose, with some light earthy and spice notes too.
Appearance: This one pours a clear amber color into the glass.
Flavor: The flavor is fairly malty with a bit of an floral hop backing.
Palate: It has a decent mouthfeel and a light-medium body.
Overall Impression: This is a decent beer, I thought it went pretty well with BBQ Ribs, so that was a plus. I wouldn't go out of my way for it, but if you are here eating, it's certainly worthy of a drink. I can see why they would have chosen this one to go with this place.
