Bottle received in trade from RobertDale, thanks for the opportunity! Pours a solid black with a decent sized creamy tan head that displays moderate retention, and minimal lace. Aromas of earthy spicy minty hops atop a base of coffee, chocolate and caramel with a touch of ethanol to round things out. The taste is solid roasted coffee, caramel, and chocolate with a huge earthy minty herbal hop flavor. Moderate hop bitterness. Medium to thick body with a light to moderate level of carbonation, and a sweet somewhat sticky and oily mouthfeel. This is an interesting imperial stout for sure. The late hop choices are certainly unconventional, but I kind of enjoyed this beer. The body might be a tad thin for an imperial but it doesn’t distract me too much.

Bottle thanks to RobertDale. Pours dark brown with tan head. Nose and taste of cocoa, flaked oats, grassy hops, creamed coffee, toasted chocolate and vanilla. Some toasted cracker malt. Medium body.

Bottle shared thanks to iphonephan. Pours near black with a small beige head. Aroma of chocolate, roast, licorice, light coffee and toffee. Flavour is medium to heavy sweet and bitter. Full bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle: Poured a dark black color stout with a rather large brown foamy head with good retention and some minimal lacing. Aroma of dry coffee notes with roasted malt is dominant. Taste is also quite dry with some coffee notes with roasted malt with light bitter black chocolate notes. Body is a bit thin for style with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. This is a middle of the road offering with quite dry aftertaste that is veering into astringency.

12oz bottle generously gifted from the Free State crew post GTMW 2013. I’m really digging this beer, very sublime and easy going for the style these days, no overwhelming bourbon or oak or champagne yeasts or whatever. Clean chocolate body, some mild minty hops..sort of walks a similar path as a big Black IPA, but less hoppy and leans into the creamy, oily rich malt tones. Caramel, cocoa, black coffee. Easy going and quite enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours black with a thin dark brown head that dissipates quickly to the edges quickly. Aroma has notes of dark fruits and roasted malts with a bit of pine hops and some underlying chocolate (plus a hint of booze. Flavor has roasted malts and bitter chocolate up front with a bit of underlying pine hops and booze.

Bottle at RBWG 2013. Pours black-brown with a fine, beige cream head. Basic dark malt nose, some earth, dry cocoa. Medium sweet flavor, some further earthy bitterness, burnt bread. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Moderately sweet finish, pretty bitter, some earth, burnt grass, bittersweet cocoa. Not too sweet. Decent.
