An amber beer style that was developed over 200 years ago to celebrate the original Oktoberfest. The Märzen name comes from “March beer” because it was historically brewed in March to be at peak flavor for the Oktoberfest celebration. Today this style is available year-round in the US due to popular demand.

On tap. As Paulaner Oktoberfest Marzen. Pours a clear gold with a medium, creamy, long lasting, off-white head that laces nicely. Sweet aroma of grainy malt, bread, caramel and a hint of fruit. Sweet flavour of grainy malt, bread, corn, caramel and mild fruit with a dry, mildly bitter finish. Light to medium body with an oily texture and average carbonation. Not bad.

Bottle. Dark amber orange color with a thick beige head. Aroma is sweet and malty, a little toasty and some vegetal notes. Tastes sweet, bready malt and lightly floral. Rather mild.

Draft at PreFunk. A but if a let down after some other märzens. Darker amber, grainy chemical aroma. Oily. Corn and cooked veggies. Slick, and sweet. They should be able to do much better.

33cl bottle. As Paulaner Oktoberfest Märzen. Pours clear gold with a creamy one-finger off-white head. Aroma of grains, caramel, and spice with some fruitiness. Taste follows nose, with a bit of toasted malt. Not bad. Quite drinkable.
