This beer is an American adaptation to the classic Belgian style of beer known as a Tripel. Historically Tripels were brewed to have a very light golden color, a moderate hop presence, and be around 9% alcohol. But we are not in Belgium, so I decided to crank up the hops, dry hop the beer with American Amarillo hops, and brew it to 10% ABV. This is our American Tripel, enjoy.

Sensory Profile:

Enjoy in a goblet or wine glass.

Tropical fruit and honey are the two biggest aromas coming from this lively brew. While the hop bitterness is not as powerful as an IPA, the hop flavor melds nicely with the fruity flavors created by the imported Belgian yeast strain used.

Food Pairing: This beer goes great with roasted vegetables, fish and rotisserie chicken. And it can be used as a aperitif before dinner with shrimp cocktail.

hazy yellow pour, big thick white head. Aroma of apples, pears, oranges, and yeast. Flavour is yeasty, and quite hoppy. Lots of citrus, and apples. Very very crisp finish, nice lingering bitterness. Excellent tripel.

From Feb 2008

I got this bottle in a trade with Nutbrown. Thanks Alan!

It pours from 750ml bottle a clear medium gold with a good 2 finger head of foam and some nice sticky lacing. Subsequent pours bring a slight haze to the appearance.

The smell I noticed as I popped the cap. A nice mix of fruit(apple & pear) and a healthy dose of hops.

The taste matches the nose. Almost equal portions of fruit and hops that gives the overall flavour of tartness and grass. I read the label and they say that they don't consider it to be a true Belgian Tripel because of the hop presence(it says American Tripel) and I'd tend to agree though, after a few more sips, I'm getting notes of candy sugar and some peppery flavour. Call it what you like, this is a darn good Ale and a darn god sipper.Btw, no sign at all for me when it comes to the abv...good job!

The mouthfeel is on the thick side and the carbonation is light but adequate, and it finishes with a lemony twang. Very enjoyable!
This one is worth a repeat, in my book.

Bottle. Pours a clear gold with thick white head that lasts leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is honey and yeast. Medium mouth, fruity, light spice, citrus, hides alcohol well, good.

750mL bottle bought from brewery 12/28/14 and drunk fairly shortly thereafter
Initially large white head tops a sparkling golden-copper body that is very clear. Hmmm...almost too clear. As suspected, no sediment whatsoever at the bottom. Which is fine, I guess, but was hoping this would be unfiltered (or less filtered, anyways).
Fruity esters mix with leafy, fragrant hops. Amarillos are one of my favorite American hops and they are fine here, if a bit unexciting. Little bit of tangerine, mint, touches of white grapefruit and tons of yellow fruits from the yeast (pineapple, nectarines, peaches). Alcohol heat is definitely felt, though not raw or overpowering, while the malts seem a bit absent. Very dry crackers, white bread and a touch of honey mixing with the alcohol and esters to give sort of a marmalade note.
The flavor comes off heavily peachy; moreso, even, as it warms. Sort of a bittersweet component, with light pineapple, alcohol warmth and touches of black pepper. Hops aren’t too bitter, thankfully and there’s some malt sugar to lend balance, but it’s a bit messy, coming off lightly syrupy and yet grainy/husky as well. Carbonation is initially engaging, if somewhat prickly, but falls off too quickly, leaving the beer feeling a bit flabby and exposing the syrupy and boozey qualities. Could easily be a top notch beer if this wasn’t so filtered and the alcohol was dialed back even 1%. The lack of bottle conditioning really detracts here.

Bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a clear gold with minimal white head. Aroma of fruit, Belgian yeast and a little burnt diesel. Taste is light bitter. Earthy herbal and citrus with Belgian yeast and some butterscotch. Full bodied with a somewhat thin and slick texture. Lively carbonation and a super long finish. Overall, pretty darn good.

0.75l bottle from Cracked Kettle. This was actually one of the first beers I bought from Cracked Kettle, so have been saving this for a while. It pours a lovely looking glowing cloudy honey-golden body with a big heavy lacing off-white head. Smells a little bit of cellar and Belgian yeast. It's also somewhat zesty on the nose, and there are clear notes of oxidation. It has a average carbonation level and a kinda gliding and oily mouthfeel. In the taste I get lots of really ripe fruits, some yeasty tones, canned pears and light candy sugar. The twist here is that has a slight acidity in between the other flavors. Almost like sour raspberries mixed with blue plums in a way. Makes it more interesting, but I have to admit that it's not a masterpiece of a tripel this, but that being said, it kinda grows on you after a while in the glass. Some subtle traces of alcohol, and I have to say subtle because the fact that it's a 10 percent to ABV beer is hard to notice. It's leaving the mouth in a state that I would describe as drying and longing for more - and that's undoubtedly a good thing! 10.04.2013
