A highly memorable brewday back in 2013 with luminary Dutch brewers Rooie Dop & Oersoep followed by a 10 month maturation in red wine barrels with our Brett yeast. A super complex, vinous , mildly tart stout ale.

330ml bottle. Quasi black colour with average to huge, slowly settling, minimally lacing, beige to tan head. Chocolately dark malty, vinous fruity and slightly yeasty spicy aroma, notes of dark chocolate, milk chocolate, blue grapes, red wine, soem morello, a touch of nutmeg and cinnamon, oaky overtones. Taste is slightly sweet, slightly tart, minimally dry, roasty, chocolately dark malty, vinous fruity, slightly woody and minimally yeasty spicy, notes of dark chocolate, milk chocolate, blue grapes, red wine, some morello, a touch of oak, some funk, a very cautious touch of cinnamon and nutmeg. Quite complex, still a tad edged and edgy - very nice. One of the best wild Stouts I had so far.

Bottle. Bought last week at Slijterij Vonk in Zaandam, without knowing or being noticed that this beer is brewed in 2013 and without seeing the best before date of july 16th 2019. Color: Black, frothy light brown head. Aroma: Slightly tart red wine, roasted malt, Brett funk. Taste: Roasted malt, hints of coffee, pretty strong vinuous and light to moderate tart notes of red wine. Strong tannins. Dry. Light sweetness and light to moderate bitterness. Subtle leathery Brett funk. Grapes. Hints of red fruit and wood. Smooth and bit creamy mouthfeel. Over medium body, below average carbonation. Still very nice after all those years and no signs of decay.

Bottle. Deep dark brown color. Bretty plummy aroma with vinous notes. Vinous sweet, plummy flavor with cherry notes. Hints of roast, bretty. Sourness partly hidden behind the sweetness. Complex and characterful.

Bottled 16/7/2014. Sour tannins. Bunch of wood, oodles of oats. Bretty. Could do with more stoutyness, but fun stuff.

Bottle. Cloudy dark brown, coffee foam. Aroma: wine, wild red wine and wine vinegar. Taste: wine, a little coffee, stout, sour, tart, strange, too extravagant for me.

Bottle at home, 8th October 17. Huge gusher, fills two glasses with foam, lost a third. When the foam dissipated the beer is black. Aroma is vineous, tart, liquorice. Taste is red wine, barrel, tart, vineous fruit, wet wood, barrel. Delicious and Moreish, complex sour stout.

33cl Bottle, thanks Harmen! Mild gusher. Black colour, fluffy beige head. Aroma of acetone, lots of wood, vinegar, balsamic vinegar, hint of red wine, some leather, some sweetness as well, liquorice. Flavour is medium sweet, quite tart, acetic, wood, vinegar, balsamic vinegar, chocolate, caramel, dry sour finish. Medium bodied, over-carbonated. Would definitely classify this as a sour ale, there’s not much stout left. It’s decent, but I expected more red wine flavours and more complexity, now it’s just plain acetic/sour.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks Stas. Black with a big tan head. Aroma of roast, yeast, some fruitiness, wine, wood. Rather dry flavor, slightly tart, with a sweetish note, with roast, chocolate, dark fruits, wine, wood, some earth. Medium-bodied, rounded, well-carbonated. Good.

Dark pour, with a very tall tan-coloured head with good retention. The foam build is slow and there will be foam coming out of the bottle, if you don’t pour the whole thing into a glass. The smell is quite inviting, grapes, red wine, citrus, fruit lambic funkiness and a hint of roasted malts. The taste is bitter and sour, something between a stout and a lambic, with notes of fermented grapes, funky lambic yeast, grapefruit and vinegar. Refreshing mouthfeel, maybe a bit too carbonated, but otherwise nice.
