Bottle. Thanks Kevin. Pours hazy golden with a large frothy white head. Senne yeast and fresh crispy herbal grassy hops. Little biscuit. Smooth and bitter. Its clean and about as lovely as their whole catalogue. Underrated!

Side by side comparancy. Nr 5 and 6 pour the same, hazy blonde with a good white head ( hazy since I poured with yeast ) . Smell is more to the lemon-side in 5, while having a touch more yeast in 6. However, these differences are superdetailed, and as good as unexistent. Taste is sharp, bitter, with some lemon fruits and a nice malty back. Mild buttery malt-profile - on Nr 5 . . 6 is definately sharper, more intensely bitter. Less on the fruity side, more to the yeast yet again. The aftertaste contains the malt-profile that is more prominent in the other version. Both have the same MF and carbo, which are both very good. Very close to eachother right now. If you don’t taste them side-by-side, I dont think you will notice a difference. I am very curious to wether age will set these ones appart ? Giving the same score since they are so damn close, but If i HAD to choose, I think i slightly prefer the Nr 5

Another variation on the Wadesda theme, with a moussy, off-white head leaving good lacing but less exuberantly than the #5; colour is about the same, perhaps a tad deeper, hazy yellow blonde. Aroma to me is more pleasant than that of the #5, but otherwise very similar: peach, touch banana, grass, straw, sourdough, gooseberries, apple, minerals, but again, alas, that off-putting sulphuric burnt plastic odour, albeit more subdued now, and the rainwater and rotten weeds are there again too. Taste is also similar: restrained fruity esters at the start, sourish and minerally but low in terms of sweetness, green apple, sour berries and unripe plums, softer carbo than the #5 but still well attenuated, smooth pale malt sweetishness, a bit more bready than the #5, same level of yeastiness, earthy and grassy hop bitterness playing around and increasing in the finish but remaining more gentle and less bittering than in the #5; fruitiness and maltiness play a bigger role in the finish as well. The aroma was not too inviting in this one either, but the flavour seemed more balanced. If this trend continues, something really good may eventually come out of it, whether it be with lyophilized hops or not.

Hazy pale golden colour, white head. Hoppy aroma, light twigs, light herbal, hint of weed. Bitter flavour, malts, hops, light yeast. Light bitter finish, twigs, dried herbs. Feels somewhat more outspoken than Wadesda #6. Nice experiment.

Bottle at Moeder SG. It pours hazy golden-amber with a massive white head. The nose is fresh, juicy, grassy, floral, apricot, peach and earth. The taste is bitter, pretty grassy, doughy, zesty citrus, straw, floral, pepper, light alcohol and mild sweetness with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Rather quaffable. Good bitterness. Works very well.

2 * 330 ml. bottle’s @ ’t Antwaerps Bierhuyske. #5 & #6 side-by-side. Appearance is the same for both version, Quite hazy touch darker orange, rather big creamy white head. Nose is fruity yeast, ripe apricot, very creamy, #5 bitter grass, seems to dominate a bit more in typical De La Senne style, floral bitter, #6 is a bit heavier on yeast, sugar, pear, more yeast forward but the more you compare, the smaller the difference seems to become. Both appear to be very creamy. Taste of #5 is more bitter grass in typical De La Senne fashion, floral bitter, creamy overripe fruits, pear, apricot, big creamy yeast but it doesn’t dominate, #6 seems to be more yeasty, more sweetness, less bitter grass,… The more you taste, the more you pallet adjusts & the less the difference seems to become but #5 appears to be my favorite, more bitter grass, floral hop seems to lead to a better balance, the fact that both are rather close is impressive on its own,… Still I hope that all of these experiments won’t lead to Taras Boulba with freeze dried hops or they already have & I haven’t noticed the difference. Body-wise both appear to be the same, wonderfully creamy, light yeast presence.
