Aroma of Brett infection, cellar funk, leather, ripe dark fruits, faint chocolate, faint coffee. Flavour is funky, some sourness, faint coffee bitterness. The infection totally ruined this Stout, but I found it surprisingly drinkable.

Bottle at Winterbierfestival, Gouda 2014: Drunk it under its alias Wittenburg De Jonkheer Stout. This black opaque beer wasn’t good at all, brew fail. Try it later if the quality is better.

2014 version, 7.2% ABV. Bottle. Deep dark brown color. Roast and coffee in the aroma. Malty sweet, soft roasty flavor with hints of chocolate and coffee. Hint of licorice. Decent.

Bottle shared at home. Gusher. Black with fluffy tan head. Smell of brett and alcohol fills the room. Sweet deep roasted chocolate malts, overpowered by sour and funky brett with rotten oak characteristics. Moderate sweet and bitter, over medium sour and funky. Medium body and strong carbonation. Obviously infected and unintended (label brags about chocolate and laurel, light sweet to bitter palate), but the infection actually makes this a pretty interesting beer and doesn’t even taste that bad.

Bottle, De Jonkheer Stout (alias), 8.4%. Bbf date end of 2019, so this seems to be a newer batch than (almost) all previous ratings. Color: Very dark ruby, big stable beige head. Nice lacing, head seams to last forever. Aroma: Roasted malt, coffee hints. Taste: Roasted malt, notes of liquorice, light hints of dark chocolate and coffee. Thin. Smooth, bit creamy mouthfeel. Light vanilla hints at finish. Medium body, below average carbonation. Moderate to medium sweet, moderate bitter. Slightly sourish like acidity of coffee beans. In between Stout and Dubbel. Definitely not one of the best Stout beers in my opinion.

330ml bottle. Opaque, darkest brown colour with average, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, tan head. Rather expressionless, roasty dark malty aroma, a touch of liquorice. Taste is dry, sour-ish, ashy, roasty dark malty, hints of liquorice, metallic overtones.

(Bottle, Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 1 March 2015. 7.2%) Dark brown colour with big, frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of coffee, roasted malt and dark bread. Malty, roasted taste with coffee, dark bread, prunes, roasted malt and a generous coffee bitterness. More than medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and well balanced stout. Nice one.

Pours dark brown from the bottle and leaves a tan head that soon fades to whispy trails of lacing. Aroma is pleasant enough: chocolate with strong roasted notes and a tart undertone. Nice start, but things go downhill from here. Taste is sour, and not in a good way. This is not a clean, tart sourness, but something vile and contaminated. Like someone forgot to clean the barrel. I just cannot picture someone sitting down and enjoying a pint of this. Did not finish.

Shared bottle. Dark brown, beige head. Aroma: can’t put finger on it, but it’s not pleasant. Taste: dark malts, nuts, roast, acidic with a strong sour component. Not worth buying.

0,33l bottle at home. BB 01/01/2017. black color, rather big coffee-colored head. smells of light licorice, some grain, spices, a bit sourish, a bit pukeish even, some dried fruits, overall OK smell. full body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes licorice, spices, sourish, vinegar, earthy, light puke, dried fruits. finishes a bit dry with notes of licorice, earth and a bit pukeish. Overall decent and drinkable but if there was some quality control this beer should not have been released, just weird.
