On tap at Great Divide - DEN. Pours black with a tan head. Loads of roasted malts, burnt sugars, and charcoal on the nose. Flavour is full of great roasted malts, charcoal, and burnt sugars. Rich and drinkable. This is phenomenal.

Near black body topped by maybe the greatest dense, frothy, deep tan head I have laid eyes on. The nose has stuff going on - Booze, fresh cut wood, apricots and chocolate milk. First and foremost, this is a chocolate stout. Very dark chocolate. secondary tastes include chocolate milk, dank citrus hops, apricots, slightly burnt caramel, a touch of café au lait, shaved wood, cream and a touch of booze warmth. Sweet but dry at the same time. After more than 2 years in the bottle, this is a smooth, integrated classic with enough edgy under tastes to make it special.

Draft 13 oz pour enjoyed at Elliott Bay Pizza. Really surprised I never ended up taking notes on this absolute gem that has frequented the specialty shops of my local for over a decade. I've really loved this series since I visited the brewery in 2013, but with the series as a side note, this base beer is damn near perfect. To paraphrase what mcberko stated, this might be the best no adjunct, no barrel imperial stout out there. What beats it? Huge roast, bold and bitter coffee notes, burnt caramel like character, long lingering charred toast. Dry cocoa nose, some toast. Love the level of bitterness this stout offers. Love that it's hot, but not boozy or overly aggressive. Flavor hangs on the palate forever. Imperial stout dialed in, with no need to change. Keep adding to this series please! But don't ever stop making this original, badass plain Yeti.

Can from Systembolaget Sweden.
Huge, semi lastning brown head. Black color.
Chocolate and mild roasted malty aroma.
Dark chocolate taste with smooth rosted malt and a medium bitterness.

330ml can. Pours black with a brown head & a viscous look. Aroma is dark malts & chocolate. Beer is slightly thick, bitter with the dark malts & chocolate from the aroma along with bitterness from lots of hops and maybe a very dark malt roast. A stout for those who like it full bodied & bitter. A bit much for me.

Can at home, cellared this one for 1.5 years. Pours jet black with a surprisingly thick and long lasting, beige head. Nose is dark chocolate, cocoa powder, coffee and hops: pine and light citruses. Taste is sweet, but with a faint, delicate bitter touch, showing dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, cocoa powder and pine again. Closes with a bitter and sweet, chocolatey, citric finish, has a full, creamy body and soft carbonation. While I'm usually not a fan of the American iterations of the style this is a hell of a banger. Smooth and creamy sweet indulgance, but hopped rather heavily, so much so that it actually remind me of a black IPA. Great stuff.

Incredibly black pour, and a thick creamy brown head. Aroma of insanely roasted malt, lots of coffee, and some chocolate, and a nice tinge of smoke, and soy sauce. Flavour is intense, and very bitter. Lots of roasted malt, and loads of coffee, with a huge burnt aftertaste. Extremely bitter finish with a lingering coffee note, wow, intense, and complex.

From Aug 2007
Purchased at Wilbur's in Ft Collins for US$5.99
It pours from 22oz bottle a very dark brown, almost black, and it has a very nice tannish head of foam to go with it. The foam stays right through the session as a solid thin layer and it has some nice sticky lacing.
The smell is complex. I get lots of chocolate, coffee, dark fruit, toffee and a touch of vanilla. It's been years since I've last had this and I forgot how well of a nose it had.
The taste is complex as the nose. Big caramel malt is the first thing I notice but I can also tast some dark chocolate and coffee and there's a nice fruity kick to it as well...black cherries comes to mind. And oh yeah, I get some warming with the swallow but hey, it's a pretty strong character at 9.5% so I kind of expected it. Nice, slow sips and I'll be alright. ;^)
It has a great mouthfeel to it and the carbo is lightly done...good combination for an RIS in my book. Btw, the hops are there as well and it gives the brew a nice bitter punch most notably in the finish. Very nice brew and 1 I'd visit again more often now that I'm reaquainted with it.
Bottom line: An excellent example of the style and I highly recommend it!

Bottle at Van Moll, Eindhoven. Aroma is hoppy and roasty with chocolate, coffee, mocha, fruits, pine resin, espresso, fudge. Flavour is sweetish and nicely bitter. Body is full. Well-rounded with lots of dark chocolate and some welcome hops. Great Imperial Stout!
