Traditionally, Imperial Stouts, the biggest and boldest of all stouts, were brewed with massive amounts of roasted malts and hops, resulting in a velvety smooth but robust beer characterized by high alcohol content and extremely high hop bitterness. Meeting the challenge of this aggressive, challenging beer style, Great Divide's Yeti Imperial Stout is an onslaught of the senses. An almost viscous, inky-black brew, Yeti opens with a massive, roasty, chocolate, coffee malt flavor that eventually gives way to rich toffee and burnt caramel notes. Packed with an enormous quantity of American hops, Yeti's hop profile reveals a slightly citrusy, piney, and wonderfully dry hoppy finish.

Nice brown creamy longlasting head. Aroma is rich and sweet, dark malts, rich velvety chocolate pudding, licorice, dark sugar, hints of coffee. Taste is slightly rich and sweet, dark malts, slightly sour-ish coffee, licorice, dark sugar, cocoa, grass, burnt caramel, butterscotch. Longlasting bitterness, dry mouthfeel. Very nice.

Nice brown creamy longlasting head. Aroma is rich and slightly sweet, dark malts, rich espresso, licorice, dark sugar, hops, cocoa, grass. Taste is lots of burnt notes, dark malts, burnt coffee, ashtray, burnt caramel, dark sugar, licorice, chocolate. Longlasting bitterness, dry burnt mouthfeel. Very nice even as a fresh bottle, compared to many other imperial stouts that really needs some aging to come to it’s best.

Amazing beer. Very dark and heavily roasted body, but yet with a fresh touch of fruity hops. Great.

Bottle. A- Chocolate, molasses, caramal, smoke, wood. A- Black color, dark liquid, brown head. T- Burnt caramel, wood, smoke, chocolate, molasses, coffee. P- Full body, creamy texture, average carbonation, full smokey finish. O- Apparently I don’t like Imperial Stouts. This was awful. Too smokey and burnt tasting to even finish the bottle.

Pours pitch black, high viscosity, nice brown lacing. Aroma has some coffee, also berries - black currant? Roast and A LOT OF HOPS. Taste is smoky, base with a strong malt character that has a blanket of hop aromas and flavours thrown over it. IBU is 75 which does not actually feel too much at all - malty-roasty base balances nicely with the hop orgy this beer has. Very good imperial porter - that has probably been intensively dry-hopped. Aftertaste is long, roast again, dry with coffee, bitter dark chocolate and some hops bitterness. Something smoky at the end. This is a big beer and you want to savour it, quite impossible to guggle.

12 oz bottle. Pours like motor oil, black with little head. Aromas of heavily roasted malts, sugared coffee, and vanilla. Flavours of espresso, dark chocolate cake, vanilla, and chicory. Yummy.

22oz bottle from January 2011. Aroma has a moderate fruitiness to it with raisin, fig and plums. Moderate chocolate and medium light roast notes also present. Hints of alcohol and a touch of a wet cardboard oxidative note. Pours black with a moderately thick mocha head with fairly decent retention that sticks to the edges and leaves a thin film in the center once it does recede. Light lacing and moderately small legs. Flavor is fairly sweet with a lot of chocolate character. Moderate roast notes with hints of coffee as well as some vegetal matter and a light ashy note. Some medium light fruit notes of raisins, figs, plums and prunes. Medium tobacco and leather notes as well. Moderate bitterness without any hop flavor. Light cardboard oxidation note. The ashy vegetal note in the finish is not super appealing. Lingering dark chocolate and coffee flavors as well. Alcohol is well hidden. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low but present astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall a decent stout, especially for the price but the vegetal and ashy note was really disappointing; I’m not sure if it’s always present or a function of the beer’s age.
