Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore... Up until the 1940’s, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created. Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

Dark brown colored, medium- beige head, nice lasting. Aroma is fruity raisins, banana, quite caramelish, bit toast, sugary, cloves and a touch of alcohol. Taste is very sweet caramel and sugary, wheat, some toasted notes, banana, raisins, clove, herbal notes, low bitterness, sweet finish, alcohol and boozy warmth. Full bodied, thick and syrupy, flat carbonation. A bit too sweet and boozy, a bit cloying as well.

Deep brown, hazy, moderate airy head. Retention below avarage. Lacing present. Dense aroma of syrup, dry fruit, prune, port wine, some yeast, wheat. Full body. Thick palate. Soft carbo. Sweet taste with notes of port wine, prune, spicy yeast, roasted malts, light hop bitterness. Very boozy. Nevertheless alcohol not really accented. It’s a great experiance still the regular Aventinus is better.

Bottle from Fresh Fields Market, Croydon, it pours dark mahogany brown with a quickly dissipating beige head. The nose is rich, bitter - sweet, caramel, plenty of dried fruits, date, fruit cake, glacé cherry, rich spice, brown sugar, earth and brandy. The taste is rich, bitter - sweet, so much dried fruits, raisin, dried cherry, fruit cake, light spice, good alcohol boost, cherry cola, chewy malt, caramel, earth and toast with warming, woody finish. Medium - full body and moderate carbonation. Quite the beverage. Strong and revitalising!

Bottle from Drinks of the World. Pours hazy brown with a medium head. Boozy nose, but in a rather exciting way. Some wheat too. Sweet taste, still boozy, but I don’t mind, since it fits with the rest of the beer: Lots of fruits, heavy but not too much, fizzy carbonization.
