Every year on the 24th of February, the birthday of "Charles the fifth", the Brewery brews the Gouden Carolus "Cuvee of the Emperor" in a limited quantity and with an eye on the highest quality and tradition. This unique brewing, with only extra fine Belgian hops and with a higher alcohol level, guarantees a better evolution in the time, than the already known Gouden Carolus Classic. The 75cl bottles are closed with a quality cork. Excellent to store several years. This exceptional ale ages well, developing a refined complexity and intense aromas. With powerful notes of roasted malts, caramel and plums, its surprisingly soft and fruity aroma combines a warm roundness with a refreshing taste. An imperial brew to cherish and enjoy in moderation.

On tap. Pours a clear dark brown with a small, creamy, short lived, beige head that leaves spotty lacing. Sweet aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, dark fruit, caramel and booze. Sweet flavour of plums, raisins, chocolate, caramel and light roast with a warming booze finish. Full body with a creamy, smooth, oily texture and soft carbonation. Excellent, lots of complexity.

Huge Beige fluffy, frothy head stayed impeccably on a near black still body. Malt, plum, dark sugar aroma. Full mouthfeel. smooth a silky. Very creamy. Perfect carbonation. Big tasting beer with cream, malt, plum, dark fruits, dundee cake & hints of sour fruits on the back.

Re-Rated. On draft @ Kauwackers. Exceptional beer, one of my absolute favourite Belgian Quadrupels. 75cl bottle (2015) from Chez Sophie. Pours a deep dark brown, good light tan head. Aroma is rich treacle, brown sugar, raisins. Taste is smooth, exceptionally rich and fairly sweet with a well-represented quadrupel character, dried dark fruits, cassonade & dark treacle. When other Belgian dark beers seem a little tamer in recent years (Chimay Blue, Westvleteren 12...) this really shows who’s boss. A great, lazy evening warmer.

Bought at local bottle store, shared with friends. Pours dark brown with a thick, foamy, off-white head. Delicate aromas and tastes of dark fruits, plum, caramel, with sweet malty notes. Heavy in alcohol, yet very balanced. Great!

750ml bottle (vintage 2008). Bruna/rossiccia un filo torbida con schiuma beige leggera e poco persistente. Al naso frutta matura, mela grattugiata, alcol, pan di spagna, miele, ossidazione. In bocca è dolce, maltata, sbilanciata, ancora miele, manca di rotondità. Corpo pieno ma inferiore alle attese, carbonazione bassa. Deludente, andava bevuta prima.

Marrón cognac, limpia, bonita espuma cremosa y duradera. RIco aroma, barrica y whisky, caramelo. Notas lácteas. En boca es muy sabrosa, de predominio dulce y algo licórica. Azucar tostada, ricas maltas, madera, levadura belga con notas lácteas. Compleja y potente.

25cl draft at the Brick Store, Decatur, GA. Dark mahogany with some white head. Raisin/prune aroma with clove, cinnamon and chocolate covered cherries. Sweet spiced taste like a Christmas pud. Maybe a bit too sweet - it borders on cloying - but a wonderful treat for the tongue nonetheless. Long, sweet, carbonated, spiced finish. Sip it gently. Tasty.
