This is an aged Belgian red ale, which is ‘ripened quietly in oak barrels for two years’, according to the label. It has an extremely pungent aroma of rich grapey fruit, with acidic notes, very much like a slightly sour red wine or possibly a gueuze. In the mouth it is slightly sweet, extremely acidic and fruity, with grapes and even cherries discernible, and very lively. Despite the sweetness it is not at all cloying, even thin, with little or no trace of malt. Finish is sharp and fruity

Bottiglia. All'olfatto si esprimono sentori di sour. L'olfatto viene stimolato in maniera elevata e l'esistenza olfattiva è apprezzabile.

Bottle on 20th July from Brussels Zuid/Midi station. Pours a clear brownish red with almost no foam or lace. Sour cherry fruits in aroma. Lemon citrus, fine vinegars and raspberries in-mouth. Sour fruits dominate the finish. Light to medium bodied with a zingy mouthfeel.

De zure smaak blijft even hangen.

Unintentionally aged single from Lone Star, 05/11/20. Surprised I hadn't rated this on any of my usual sites. Twas a favorite of mine in a different life. Mojito glass @home. Hazy bruin/dull iced tea body with cream-colored frosting. Can of pitted cherries, splash of red vine vinegar, flat cherry cola, olive nose. Twangy. Canned cherries over bittersweet but turning apple cider. Sour apricot, soggy wood, weak soy sauce, onion bitterness. A more earthy & balsamic quality come through on the dredgy second pour. Ever slight cherry medicinal finish alongside some restrained browned apple funk. Big seller is the irritating carbonation. Mellow yeastiness, medium high acid, medium low tartness, slight popsicle stick dryness over the overall semi-sweet nature. Still pretty good but we're all jaded now.

Einfach top!

Poured from 330mL bottle (bb 18.06.2023). Clear brownish red with small off-white head. Gentle soured cherry note with a feint tartness, I think the age has done this well. Decent.

Bottle 33cl. vintage 2020 bbd 7/2023 @home poured into a tulip glass. Opaque deep red-brown colour, fizzy pinkish head, disappears in no time competely, no lacing. Aroma sweet malts, sweet and sour cherries, wood, light cloves. Fruity taste, medium sweet and sour, cherries, wood, light candy sugar. Medium body, juicy texture, soft carbonation, long fruity sweet and sour aftertaste, malty notes, cherries, light spicy notes, wood, well-balanced, very good.
