Bounty Hunter is our once-a-winter Imperial Stout that we condition on loads of toasted coconut and vanilla bean, thus offering a welcome and warming getaway within the coldest season.

This ultra-smooth beer contains a maelstrom of bitter chocolate, rich dark malts, and a subtle underbelly of tropical notes. We can hear you muttering “you had me at maelstrom…”.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color porter with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and some nice lacing. Aroma of intense chocolate notes with light dry coffee notes is really nice. Taste of chocolate malt with some intense dry coffee and roasted malt notes veering in the astringency territory is quite intense. Body is full with nice creamy texture with good carbonation and light warming alcohol. Very enjoyable beer thought maybe a bit too much astringency for my tastebuds.

500mL bottle, sent from wilco (thanks a lot, Mike), pours black with a medium brown head. Aroma brings out dry cocoa powder, not a whole else. Flavour brings out robust notes of roasted malt and cocoa, with a very dry palate - not much of the vanilla and coconut coming out. Extremely full-bodied with no residual sweetness. Quite dry and chocolate, with loads of roast. Very good stuff.

Black color with brown large head. Mild aroma of roasted malt, cardboard, roasted coconut, light yeast. Very smooth mouthfeel; the body is not too strong; a lot of dark chocolate flavor, some roasted malt, light leather and tobacco, traces of coconut.
Excellent.

Bottle from the brewery. Very dark brown pour with a small tight deep khaki head. Nose is lots of dark chocolate, roast and coffee with light vanilla and just a hint of the coconut appearing. Taste is medium bitter chocolate and coffee with light vanilla and the coconut coming through more strongly in a nice balance. Hints of dark fruit and cherry appears as it warms.. Medium full and creamy palate with soft carbonation. Excellent

Crap, this stuff black as Rob Ford’s heart, with a brown head (we’ll call that Ford’s soul just to really overextend this metaphor) that didn’t really rise up to the challenge much. Smell of coffee, chocolate, hint of booze (add Crack and bacon to that and it too is just like Ford’s smell.) Taste is a little burnt, some caramel, ends with a notable bitter aftertaste. Not really picking up on the coconut, or vanilla in any significant way. Alright, infinitely better than Mill Street vanilla porter. Thanks Freakytikki for not suing me for stealing the Rob Ford bit.

(On tap at the brewpub, April 6 2014) Pours black with a thin, medium brown head. Aroma of lots of sweet dark and chocolate malts, moderate roast, vanilla been, fairly restrained coconut, some herbal hops, slight alcohol note. On the palate, starts with sweet chocolate malts, slight bitter roast but low for the body of the beer, and vanilla bean, fairly restrained grassy hops. Coconut isn’t really noticeable til it builds towards the finish, where relatively light roast means it isn’t overpowered. Some alcohol heat on the finish but quite smooth and creamy overall due to coconut. Body medium but oily with low carb. I was expecting even more coconut but thought the amount was right in the end. To be fair, I really like both coconut and vanilla. Strong imperial porter body but without the huge roast of a stout was a good fit for the additions. Would sip again.

A deep dark porter with a thin brown head. In aroma, sweet chocolate malt with light coconut, grassy hops, faint vanilla and herbaceous notes. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity chocolate malt with light coconut, coffee, vanilla, alcohol warmth, very nice. On tap at brewery.
