Titan is a single hop IPA designed to showcase the hop aroma and character of Southern Passion, a locally bred variety of hops that provides bitterness as well as a wonderful passion fruit aroma. The hop was originally known as US4/78 and hybridised in the Outeniqua mountains where all our local hops are cultivated. The hop was only ever utilised for bittering and, in 2012, we were the first craft brewery to brew a big IPA with Southern Passion.

The golden pour hints at the crystal malts used to impart some sweetness and the 8% ABV makes for a solid malt backbone. This beer will develop with age and is a nice winter warmer but balanced enough to enjoy cold on a summer day.

Malts: Pale, Various Crystal Malts
Hops: Southern Passion

Level 42 Bottleshare. Thanks to Paul. Clear gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Smooth palate, mildly dry and with decent carbonation. Soft and sweetish malts. Nice hop spice and pine. Touch of floralness before more spice and pine. Light citric peel. Smooth semi dry finish. Dunno what everyone else was drinking, I liked it!

Bottle picked up at Roeland Liquors, shared at level 42. It pours clear golden - amber with a medium off - white head. The aroma is soft, sweet, butterscotch, Werthers original, bread and toffee. The taste is dry, pretty bitter, pithy citrus, rather zesty, soapy, grassy, waxy peel, bit of butterscotch / toffeee in the background with lingering bitter - dry - zesty finish. Medium body and moderate foamy carbonation. Not so great.

Bottle shared in London - thanks to Scoopey. Pours totally clear yellow-gold with a frothy, white head. The nose has a lot of butterscotch, white bread, dough, faint citrus. Medium sweet flavour with notes of maple syrup, pale bread, ample grassy bitterness, crispy pale malts. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Finishes with more grassy hops, sugary pale malts, maple. So so.

Bottle shared on Level 42 14/11/2016. Many thanks to Scopey for this one. A light hazed golden dull orange coloured pour with a fading off white head. Aroma is big butterscotch, caramel, brown sugars, veg piney hop. Aged. Flavour is composed of sweet caramel, unrefined sugars, vanilla, worthers original. Tired woody piney hops with a little jammy fruits. Woody finish. Palate is medium sweet., moderate carbonation, flabby. Good stuff.

Bottle at Level 42, thanks to the Laird of Inverurie, 14/11/16. Golden amber with a moderate off white cap. Nose is Werthers Original but without grandads moustache hairs, orange peel, buttery, brioche. Taste comprises melon, orange pith, straw, bread dough, caramel, thankfully the buttery notes subside. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a light hop bitterness. So so overall ... low end for style.

Poured from 340mL bottle. Cloudy brownish yellow with off-white head. Aroma of bubblegum and vegetable with mild malt. Same taste, medium body.

Bottle at Deanso’s crappy music tasting. Poured a clear dark amber with a broken white head. The aroma is malty and zesty. The flavour is hugely malty with lots of alcoholic bitterness. A super beer.
