Bill Brewer is a low-alcohol version Sussex Old Ale (1%), retaining the essential character of this brew. As with John Hop, the beer is produced identically to the parent product and the alcohol is only removed prior to bottling. A low alcohol Brown Ale with a full malty palate and slightly burnt aftertaste.

Bottle from the brewery. Well it is less than 1% but as far as non alco beers goes, it’s a good one. It starts just like an Old Ale, one of my favourite Harvey beers but of course lacks the filling ending, as it finishes just like water, very shortly. A good substitute for the drivers!

old rating. Fresh and floral hoppy beginning. Easy to drink with a mild and slightly watery body. Fresh and still ale-like. Caramel, brown sugar - especially for this low ABV. Round and refreshing!

Bottle shared at Herr Schmitt’s gaff. Thanks to Leighton. Chestnut brown red coloured pour halo of off white head. Aroma is nice nutty raisin bread. Flavour is dry nutty malt. Low fruity esters. Touch of raisin. Some sweet wort. Weird hairspray note at the back of the throat.

Bottle shared at Garbage Night II - London. Picked up from the Royal Oak. Pours clear amber with a frothy tan head. The nose holds berries, grapes, brown bread. Medium sweet flavor with sugary bread, slightly rotten fruits, more berries, faint leather and earth. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sugary bread to finish, some straight toasted sugar, light toffee, aged fruits. OK low ABV old ale, anyway.

Bottle thanks to Leighton. It pours deep brown with a small beige head. The nose is earthy, wood, caramel and supermalt. The taste is dry, woody, caramel, earth, leather with a dry finish. Light body and fine carbonation. Punchier than the John Hop for sure. As 1% old ales go this is a belter.

Poured a dark mahogany with zero life. The flavour was flat, lifeless, a little like syrup but not in a nice way. Not nice to drink at all.
