Pour is a black with an average tan head, Aroma is plenty of roasted malts. Flavor is again plenty roasty with a nice smokyness lingering in the backround. Finish is light and leaves a roastyness on the tounge. One of the better magic hat beers i have had.

Roasted malt and dry as a bone, no hop presence. There is just a little smoke as the previous rater noted. Good palate, smooth.

Bottle. Pours with a near black body and a large foamy, tan head. Aroma of chocolate, light wood, nuts and caramel. Flavors of espresso, roast, earth and light wood. Medium to high carbonation, light bitter finish. Okay schwarz.

12 ounce bottle from the winter sampler. I love my local Kroger putting these samplers on sale when they first get them for less than a dollar a bottle. Yay for them! This one pours a clear reddish brown color with a large tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of nutty roasted malts. Taste is nutty (faintly honey nut cheerios, actually) with slightly roasted malts and faint caramel and leafy hops. Medium bodied. Drinkable but fairly boring.

On tap at the Bloomington Beer Festival. Poured near black, but slightly brown with a tan. Aroma had note of roasted coffee, roasted malts and a wooden undertone. Flavor had a nice combination of the notes mentioned above. It was very smooth as well.

Pretty darn good. Had some on tap at the Magic Hat brewery. Pours a rich, dark brown with a slightly beige head. Nose of roasted malts primarily, along with notes of coffee. Flavor follows the smell as you might expect: strong malt character with bits of chocolate and coffee. A nice sweetness is complemented by some mild hopping. Smooth and tasty.
