At 10.5% alcohol by volume, barley wine style ale is in a class all its own. Intense caramelized flavors create sweetness which is balanced by huge additions of Galena hops. Cascade aromatic hops are added at the end of the boil to compliment this strongest of ales.

Bottle from CoOp Bellingham
Beautiful amber color with copper hue, small creamy head. Moderate malt and caramel aroma, light fudge. Good malt flavor, some caramel, quite sweet but not syrupy; strong bitterness with nice hop resins and light fruitiness. Bold Barley Wine. The final is expectedly long and powerful.
Straightforward American Barley Wine, very good.

22 ounce bottle courtesy of scrizzz, in Mystery Swap 4.0 so long ago. Opened 10/13/10. Pours a hazy reddish brown with a medium frothy tan head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of toffee, berries and peppery hop notes. The taste is toffee, caramel and bitter herbal hops. The bitterness mellows a bit as the beer hits room temp, but its still rubbing me the wrong way. Decent barleywine, just not my thing.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with no head and a hazed golden body. Aroma of alcohol, caramel and dates. Taste is caramel, quite malty, alcohol and very nice overall (not very descriptive, I know). Low carbonation.

Bomber from Malt & Vine. Pours copper with a very frothy beige head. Sweet malt aroma. Medium plus body with very mild carbonation. Very little heat. It’s sweet, but there’s some bitter to help balance. Sweet wins though. It is a very tasty ale, and can be quaffed rather than sipped. The aroma becomes strongly caramel, and it is incredibly tasty.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a small fast disappearing off-white head. Has a fruity malty dark fruit aroma with some hints of caramel and some hints of orange. Sweetish fruity malty dark fruit and caramel flavor with some hoppy hints. Has a sweetish malry warming dark fruit finish with hoppy hints in the aftertaste.

Bomber from Bottleworks; 2007; Nose of toffee, brown sugar, and prunes; no hops like most of the other American Barleywines; Rusty red-brown with a big red-tinged head; flavor very malty with only a tiny bit of bitterness, lots of brown sugar, and dark fruitiness.

Rated July 2008. Ratebeer rating #1600 Acquired via trade with after4ever. Pours dark brown to copper with a bit of haze and tan head. The aroma is malty sticky sweetness and some medium colored fruity esters. A good dose of alcohol too if the draw goes too long. The taste is sticky malt sweetness blending into fruity esters. Smooth and slick and turning into sugar coated pears along with nice lip smacking residual sweetness. Never gets too warming or hot. Nice stuff.
