At 10.5% alcohol by volume, barley wine style ale is in a class all its own. Intense caramelized flavors create sweetness which is balanced by huge additions of Galena hops. Cascade aromatic hops are added at the end of the boil to compliment this strongest of ales.

Bottle. Dark ruby/tofee color with a small tan head. Rich caramel aroma with a citrus hops. Citrus/fruity hop flavor with some pine and sweet caramel backing. A bit of some darker malts. Summer fruit/cherry lingering with some sweetness. Alcohol is noticeable and comes on at the finish pretty strong. Time will tell if this gets better. Medium body.

Thanks to Suttree for sharing this at decaturstevo’s tasting. A fleeting off-white head forms over a medium brown body. Complex aroma of dried fruits and caramel. Sweet fruit flavor that follows the aroma. Decent Barleywine.

Bottle shared by Styles. Clearish toffee brown-red body, thin buff head. Aroma of toffee and burnt caramels and a splash of prune and plum, with modest earthy hops. Toasty body with burnt notes, sweet caramel, and toffee, all somewhat oxidized. Moderate tartness. Earthy, bitter finish. Thins after a few sips.

22 oz. bottle from Bottleworks. There was no date indicated on the bottle, so no idea what vintage this was. Pour is a clear brown copper with a very thin head that fades fast. Aroma of big sweet biscuit malty goodness. Not complex, but a nice nose. Taste is more of the malt and is really soft and really well put together (smooth). No heat whatsoever despite higher ABV. Nice Barley Wine. I would guess this was a year or 2 old.

(Bottle 65 cl) A beautiful, clear, reddish beer with a creamy, off-white head. Vinous, raisiny nose. Full-bodied, notes of caramel and LOTS of raisins in the flavour. And then some rather unusual - for its style - ashy edge. Typical - for a Barleywine - somewhat muddy hop profile. Still pleasant. 220406

A hazy red beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has strong notes of alcohol and berries, while the flavor is very sweet with strong notes of caramel and malt. Not that complex, but still nice.

Murky brown with a caramel head. Malty aroma with figs, plums and canned peaches. Sweet, plummy, burnt raisin flavours. Richly malty, but only slightly chewy. A little tart and vinous in the back - don’t bother aging this one as it may be turning in early.
