Bottle, 9% ABV. Clear deep amber with a cm of pale beige head. Aroma of sourish cherries, macerated dried fruit, bread and/or cake. Some singed biscuity notes. Weird. Not a whole lot of body, smooth with carbonation on the low side of moderate - which suits it. Caramel and biscuit sweetness before fruity bitterness. Dried, berry and tropical notes seem more convincingly tied together after a sip or two. Odd but good.

From a 330ml bottle on 6/1/2019 (label says 'Hunt for the Red Velvet, ABV 9.0%). Pours a murky amber with a small head. Has a modest aroma of burnt caramel and dark malt. Tastes sweet upfront - lots of caramel and dark fruit, followed by the sharpish, slightly vinous bitterness which not particularly roasty. It's a touch boozy and dessert like. Unusual and a bit of a mix between an IIPA and a scotch ale. Has a slick texture and moderate carbonaion. A pretty tasty sipper.

Bottle split at 36 Levels lost, thanks to Dave, 28/03/18. Rich amber with a decent beige covering. Nose is earthy malts, dusty hops, fruit rinds, brown bread. Taste comprises bitter citric peel, over ripe fruits, caramel, light spice, brown sugar, sweet tones. Full bodied, fine carbonation, sweet boosty close. So so offering .... lacks cohesion and comes across more like an American strong for me.

Bottle at L6, thanks Wingman. It pours hazy deep red brown with a medium beige head. The aroma is earthy, juicy, tangy, dried fruits, spiced, fruit cake, wood and orange muffin. The taste is dry, bitter, oily, sticky, toffee, cakey malts, sticky, chocolate, tart, tannin and some warming alcohol with a slick finish. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Not a black ipa, but ok.

Taster at GABS Auckland 2017. Pours brown. Caramel, sherry, raisins, bourbon, oak. Very sweet, good bitterness, just so much boozy heat.
