Thanks to Rogueone for sharing a bottle. Dark brownish-black with a touch of red around the edges. Medium tan head that dissipates steadily, and stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of toasted malt, pine and hops. Medium body with a resiny hops character and notes of grapefruit and caramel malt. The finish is very clean with a moderately bitter piney hops aftertaste. Solid Black IPA overall.

12oz bottle courtesy of GhostFace. It pours up brown with clear amber edges and a tan head that leaves behind light spotty lacing. The aroma offers up a pleasing rich load of pine hops and dank to spicy hops mixing with dark roasted malts. The taste is very similar where the hops take the flavor lead with a blending of dank to spicy hops to resiny pine hop goodness. Well behind the hops are murmurs of dark roasted malts and faint chocolate malts that grow a tad and then linger into the finish. Darn tasty, this.

Pours a dark, almost reddish-brown. Malt and hops in the aroma. Hop bitterness, coupled with malty sweetness. Some hints of coffee, chocolate, even licorice in the flavor. My first sip was very alcohol-heavy; after that, the booze flavor settled down quite a bit. This is an interesting, flavorful beer.

Bottle: Very dark brown pour with a creamy ringe of tan head. Aroma is ripe with citrus hops, sweet, fruity, and just a little piney. With such a fruity and hoppy aroma, I really didnt expect the strong malty presence. The chocolate body provides a nice thick feeling to go along with more of a refined piney and floral hops. Interesting transition and overall very good.

12 oz bottle randomly shared by someone. The pour is dark brown, ruby red with a fluffy off white head. The aroma is citrus hops - pineapple and grapefruit, pine hops, and underneath the hops is a pleasant earthy roast malt. Really soft and melded nose. The taste is the citrus pineapple hop, the pine resin, and the very light roast malt. The earthiness is more in the finish, and is more mineral in character. The palate is medium bodied, soft active carbonation and a dry mineral finish. Really tasty, and crazy drinkable. Not sure if this is what I would think of as an Black IPA, but who cares, it’s delicious.

Purchased at Breeze Thru Liquors in Milwaukee, WI; enjoyed while watching the last Bears home game of the year, slightly depressing because they suck so bad. Appearance a very very dark brown, doesn’t really look black to me, with a thin off white head that rims around the glass. Aroma of pine hops, also getting a tropical fruit aroma, like pineapple or something. Taste is very good, hoppy without being overtly bitter, more of a citrus flavor, pretty smooth, roasted malts come out a bit more in the taste. This makes watching this game a little more bearable (no pun intended).

Thanks to Guerde for this great ale! Pours really dark brown with a 2 finger creamy tan head. It’s got that evergreen/citrus/herb aroma. Near full bodied. The flavor starts with a sweetish floral/citrus/evergreen - sort of leaving malt in the background. Then it gets into evergreen. Finishes far from sweet with lots of smooth non-harsh hop. Following with chocolate pine needles. Keeps changing flavor aspects. But pine is always there. Nice!
