Expect this beer to pour a hop forward jet black glass brimming with aromatic bitterness. Master Brewer Daniel Carey skillfully weaves molasses and chocolate malt undertones with a soaring rush of clean citrus and pine hop notes to deliver a drinkable Black IPA. 12fl.oz.-bottle. Toller hopfenaromatischer Geruch. --> super tolles Bier! 14/12/15/15

12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a dark brown with a ruby hue and minimal head. Aroma of citrus and tropical fruits with some caramel and roasty coffee. Taste is light bitter. Roasty dark malts and loads of citrus and tropical fruits with a little bit of pine. Medium bodied with a sonewhat thin texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, pretty good. One of the better black ipas ive had.

Bottle courtesy of Weihennweizer. Sweet milk chocolate and light mint aroma. Smells for all the world like a glass of slightly minty chocolate milk. Deep chestnut with a moderate beige head. Chocolate and roasty malt, spicy minty spruce hops and light anise flavor. Medium body, lively carbonation.

Somehow hadn’t rated this one until now. 12oz bottle. Unfiltered deep burgundy-brown body. Creamy beige head. Minty, citrus tinged aroma. Smooth and doughy. Not exactly a great example of the style, but a very balanced, enjoyable beer. Fluffy, doughy body. Brown chocolate tones. Present but subdued hops. OK.

Dark brown coloured body with a thinnish, one centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of alcohol, roasted malt, some figs and raisins and a bit of hops - not too much though. Medium-bodied; Assertive roasted malt flavours at first with a huge dose of hops and alcohol right behind - potent, but in a great way. Aftertaste shows a good balance of roasted malt, alcohol, bright grapefruity hops, a hint of peat and some caramelised sugars. Overall, a very nice Black IPA that borders on a hoppy light porter, but very nice regardless. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Trig’s Cellar 70 in Minocqua, Wisconsin on 28-July-2012 for US$1.65 sampled at home in Washington on 14-February-2013.

12 oz. bottle, bonus'd to me by ekoerper (thanks Ed), pours a deep dark brown / black with a medium foamy beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, spruce trees, and citrus and piney hops. Flavour brings out caramel and roasted malts upfront, a bit of chocolate, and a solid but slightly underwhelming citrus hop backing. Well-balanced, though perhaps slightly weak on the hop profile, or maybe I've become jaded by these over-the-top black IPAs - it seems like more of a hoppy brown ale. Whatever it is, it's well-constructed and highly drinkable. Great stuff.

Bottle as shown. Pours a clear amber with small beige head. The aroma is a strong floral hop and pine. Thick mouthfeel with a strong dry hop bite and light bitter finish. Hides alcohol well, a good black IPA from New Glarus.

Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle poured into a shaker. Pours tranlucent dark brown with small off-white head. Good thin small bubble lacing, medium body, smooth texture, and pine aroma. Taste is pine, some roasted malt, and some herbal hops. Not bad, just not my thing.

Thanks to Rogueone for sharing a bottle. Dark brownish-black with a touch of red around the edges. Medium tan head that dissipates steadily, and stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of toasted malt, pine and hops. Medium body with a resiny hops character and notes of grapefruit and caramel malt. The finish is very clean with a moderately bitter piney hops aftertaste. Solid Black IPA overall.
