Ola Dubh 1991 is the first in our annual Vintage Limited Edition Series (we only produced 20,000 bottles).

We make Ola Dubh 1991 by taking our Old Engine Oil amped up to 10.5%. It is then aged exclusively in Highland Park casks from 1991 and is bottled at full strength – a mighty 10.5% abv.

(Bottle) Dark brown colour, almost black, with brief bubbly beige head. Malty, slightly smoky nose with black rye bread, liquorice, oak wood, coffee, dried fruit (raisins, dates), vanilla and a touch of peaty whisky. Malty, slightly smoky taste with notes of black rye bread, oak wood, prunes, raisins, coffee, liquorice, vanilla, molasses, peaty whisky and a balanced herbal bitterness in a warming finish. Almost full body, quite sweet. Really tasty and well balanced. Excellent beer!

Tasting at Bruce's Pad. Thanks to Josh for this one. Opaque dark brown beer, reasonable bubbly pale tan head. Smooth and semi dry palate. Smooth dark malts. Trace of marmite and touches of rum and brandy. Mildly bitter finish.

Best before April 2016, had it in Oct 2013
Dark brown to black color. Some hoppy aroma, with chocolate in the background. Sweetish caramel flavor, some malt, evident whiskey and vanilla flavor, with good chocolate presence; moderate sweetness.

Bottle from systembolaget, cellared for a couple of years. Pitch black with almost no head. Oily texture. Boozy, peated aroma with molasses and oak. Peat is a little bit overpowering. Taste is similar with roast, earth, molasses, soy sauce and salt. No smokiness at all in the taste which is a big plus for me. Slightly bitter chocolate finish.
