Aged in select rum barrels to add extra sizzle to the flavor of our multi-award-winning BORIS The Crusher oatmeal-imperial stout. The lively, spicy character of the rum barrel creates a wonderful, crisper overall taste compared to our standard Bourbon Barrel Aged BORIS stout. This is a great twist on our most popular barrel-aged beer!

Thank you Mathieu87 + PriorL for the effort! Bomber sampled @ Samson en Geert Bierproef Avond. Black, little mocha bubbles. Nose is weird boozy licorice, syrupy mocha & licorice, sugar, raw booze, low plums. Taste is very bitter, hugely roasted barrel, almost burned, chocolate, mocha, far too bitter roasted, overly heavy on liquorice, molasses, quite boozy. Seems to almost lack, instead just far too big roast, bitterness & black licorice. Body is big roast, bitter, boozy, charred. Going by my previous ratings I liked the regular & Heaven Hill versions a lot more but to be honnest, i wasn’t really all that into any of the 10 Hopping’ Frog RIS bottles that we opened at this tasting. Good but there is so much better in this genre.

Craft 100. Clapham. Keg. Opaque dark brown beer, small tan head. Palate is smooth and slightly viscous. Decent fine minerally carbonation. Rich malts, rich dark malt cream. Spicy esters. Trace of wood. Estery rum. Bitterish coffee runs through the finish and lingers on. Tasty but quite bitter, I prefer my BA Impys a little sweeter.

Bottle at tasting. Aroma of rum booze, vanilla, oak and red fruit. Taste of licorice, rum booze, oak, coffee, creamy roasted malt and some choco. Nice smooth beer, but I like the normal Boris better.

Keg at Craft 100, 06/10/16. Rich black with a well appointed tan cap. Nose is rich fruit cake, charr, spice, rum barrel on offer, dark chocolate, oak. Taste comprises fruit cake, raisens, underlying rum twinge, spice, charr, chocolate, light vanilla. Full bodied, fine carbonation, warming booze in the close. Decent enough BA impy but no Ww for this Bois, came over a touch harsh.

Keg at Craft 100 - fall 2016. Pours oily black with a creamy, beige head. The nose holds scorched wood, dried dark fruits, raisins, chocolate. Medium to big sweet flavour with just a lick of booze, mild ashy dryness, hints of burnt toffee, baking cocoa, more dried fruits, figs. Full bodied, lightly chewy, with fine to average carbonation. Lightly warming in the finish, with nicely rich and rounded coco plate, some cherries, figs, raisins, light scorched earth bitterness. Well rounded, nice depth. Outstanding.

Bomber. I’d like to take this brew sailing, maybe to the Azores. Pours a pitch black color with a small brown head. A big sugary sweet nose, some roast. Very smooth and easygoing but big. Clear rum, lively palate, sugary sweetness, roast, a bit of dark chocolate and anise. Quite good. I sort of sweeter tropical element from the rum that works very well.

A black beer, a head is almost medium and dark brown. Aroma has salt liquirice and liquirice, some roastiness, coffee and chocolate, raisins and notes of rum, also hint of vanilla. Complex, powerful and marvellous aroma. Taste has strong salt liquirice, roastiness of coffee, some balancing bitterness against to strong malty body, some barrel and dried fruitness. Full bodied, slightly sticky, smooth. Also this version of BORIS is just brilliant.
