Brewed with 2-Row American Barley and jammed packed with as much Citra, Ekuanot, and Simcoe hops we could get our hands on, The Shape of Hops to Come is an 8.5% ABV American West Coast-style Imperial IPA that’s got a ton of bitterness along with juicy, dank, resiny pine-like and citrus forward hop character that is worthy of its name.

16 ounce can. Pours an orange amber color with nice lacing. Large Rocky beige head. Big piney hop nose. Bittersweet toasted malt flavor has some caramel notes. Spicy, tropical fruit hops come through midtaste. Intense and bitter with lots of hops. Could use more maltiness to balance the big hops. Sticky mouthfeel And grapefruit notes in finish.

Sample at Kurtkeller 024: Neshaminy Creek-tastic 01 on 09/11/2016. Clear golden color with a medium thin white head that dissipates steadily to a wispy film. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Citrus, piney hops and malt in the nose. Medium body with flavors of resiny hops, citrus and malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a piney hop aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Draught at the brewery, 6/11/16.
Bright, canteloupe-orange with a good deal of haziness and a small, off-white head that shows moderate retention.
Melon, oranges, juicy mango and a big slap of pine on the end, show a nose that seems quite confused. If they wanted to jam it full of hops and have all of these lush and dank aromatics, why also pull so much resin/pine/grapefruit out of it?? It really dominates and brings the beer down. Add to that some crystal-like malts adding iced tea and light sourdough and a dose of alcohol....
Initially juicy and promising but then it just fades to pine resin. Very bitter, way too much so, with grapefruit, alcohol, caramel, bread and sour pineapple notes lingering. Carbonation is tight and the texture, while lightly crystal-malt prone at times (hard) is lightly malty, as well.

Location: 16 oz can from Sparrow - Downtown, 8/21/15
Aroma: The aroma is pretty much all hops, earthy, spice, and resin, a bit of caramel and citrus. As it warms, that resiny / dank hop component really comes out, and the earthiness fades.
Appearance: It pours a mostly clear yellow color with a small off-white head and spotty lace.
Flavor: The flavor is quite bitter, very little sweetness, finishes resiny and dry.
Palate: The body is medium-plus, smooth feel, soft carbonation, and a rather dry finish.
Overall Impression: This is kinda one-note aggressive bitter. Not complaining, just saying, the sweetness and balance here are non-existent. Pretty sure that's what they were going for, so good on them. Pretty crushable for a 8.5% beer. Don't drink this one before anything subtle. I'm going to need something between this and the next one to cleanse the palate, that's for damn sure.

Bottle at the Dirty Old Socks Tasting, Den Haag, December 2014. Poured a crystal clear light amber with a thin broken white head. The aroma is grassy hop, pine needle, light yeast. The flavour is moderate bitter with a big grassy nettle hop citrus palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
