First brewed in 1998 to celebrate Shepherd Neame's tercentenary, this copper-bronze, bottle conditioned beauty is an intense yet uniquely intricate offering thrice-hopped during the brewing process. This adds rich resinous notes and spikes of citrus to a moreish strong ale already rife with notes of liquorice, Masala wine, caramel and spicy orange. A frisson of dark fruit freshens the finish.

brilliant appearance of clear dark ornge to amber colour, one inch creamy yellowish off-white head; aroma of walnut, toffee and floral notes as well as hints of vanilla; taste is the same - very smooth, though there is a spicy aftertaste in it, which twist the whole experience; quite good beer!

Clear deep golden color with a off white head. Ok lacing. Looks ok. Toffee, herbal and fruity aroma with an ok intensity. Medium (+) body and an average carbonation. Tad sweet and a bit oily texture. Shepheard Neame fuity and herbal flavor together with some toffee. Quite plain decent English Strong Ale.

Draught @ BAJT. Pours clear deep golden with a small frothy pale beige head that slowly dissipates while leaving a thick ring of lacing on the glass. Smell is malty and fruity with sweet dark bread, toffee, plums, grapes, hay, lemon peal and hints of alcohol. Taste is sweet, bitter, malty, tiny fruity and tiny spicy. Mouthfeel is soft, round, tiny astringent, tiny boozy and medium bodied. Finish is sweet, bitter and fairly herbal with hints of both toffee malts, dark fruits and St Johns wort. Decent strong ale... Nothing too exciting... --- Beer merged from original tick of 1698 on 20 Feb 2016 at 14:35 - Score: 6. Original review text: Decent strong ale. Nothing too exciting...

Bottle, 0.50l. Clear amber brown color with thin soapy off-white head and sparkling appearance. Aroma is bready, grassy, fruity and a bit alcoholic. Taste starts with moderate sweet caramel and toasted malt, follows grassy, yeasty and fruity, mouthfeel is mild spicy, while finish is moderate bitter. Medium body, oily texture and average carbonation in palate. Relatively good job...
