Baltic Night is a Stout, but not your average stout. Your first encounter will be its very black color and whitish head. It has a well balanced roasted bitterness as well as a hoppy aroma. If you gently position your nose at the centre of your glass, about 1 inch up, you will sense the floral notes of First Gold and Fuggle hops mixed with English barley tempt you. The high percentage of roasted barley that we use to create it also gives it a lovely hint of coffee and a long dry moreish cocoa finish. One of the reasons we are able to use such a high percent of roasted barley is because we have implemented the old continental technique of decoction mashing.

Bottle shared in London - picked up at Kris Wines. Pours brown with a creamy tan head. The nose has some tangy wood, earth, some cocoa. Light sweet flavor with a bit of off-putting tang, dry cocoa, earth, wet wood. Light bodied with average carbonation. Tangy wood finish, some moist earth, berries. Definitely a bit off. Still some interesting stuff here but itโs not as it should be.

Bottle @ Rasmus House. Pours very dark brown with a offwhite head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, licorice, chocolate. Flavor is roasted malt, coffee, licorice, hints of chocolate. Thin body, soft carbonation, light dry finish. 020812

Bottle. Creamy lightbrown good mostly lasting head. Dark red amber colour. Heavy malty and light hopy aroma. Toffee notes. Average moderate bitter flavor. Some roasted notes. Average moderate bitter finish. Oily palate.

Opaque black stout. Thin (for a stout) and crisp palate. Very tangy sour malt with a dash of spritzy minerals. A little repressed coffee. Finishes with more tangy and fruity notes. More porter than stout and quite lively.

[500ml bottle from Millets Farm Shop, Frilford, nr Abingdon] Pours black with a rapidly dissipating tan head. Chocolate and roast malt aroma. Fizz is more evident than I would normally expect or like in a stout, but oddly it seems to work against this one and is balanced against a mouthfeel which is oily and dry at the same time. Chcolate at first on the taste. Hops more evident than in most UK stouts - thereโs some straw in there, some pepper too, and a maybe a hint of elderberry. Heavy roasted malt is not overpowering - it adds a smokey hint, and is in any case is balanced against some late Kahlua sweetness. I liked this stout from the off, and my enjoyment increased further the more I drank. A fine beer indeed - well done!

Bottled. A dark brown beer with a brown head. The aroma has notes of sweet and roasted malt as well as toast. The flavor is sweet with notes of straw and chocolate, as well as hints of roasted malt, leading to bitter finish. The body is light. Thanks yespr for sharing.
