Originally one of the 12 ‘Natural Selection’ brews back in October 2008 to support the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust’s Adopt a Species Campaign, it immediately won the Society of Independent Brewers (Midlands) Supreme Champion Beer award at the Robin Hood Beer Festival and followed this success by winning the SIBA National Strong Bitter title, as well as bronze Strong Bitter (Champion Beer of Britain) 2013. Brewed to export strength this strong well hopped India Pale Ale has become a firm favourite with followers of the style.

Cask@GBBF 2009. Golden color, small white head. Apples and some honeyish hops in the nose. Honeyish flavor with fruity (pear, apples) notes. Sweetish blonde ale.

Cask@GBBF2009. Golden colour, small white head. Aroma is quite sweet malts, some bitter wood as well as some floral hops. Flavour is bready, fruity, a bit doughy and floral, but still is quite pleasant and drinkable.

Cask handpull at Alexandra Hotel, Derby. Gold, lasting white head. Slightly ascetic strong golden beer, not overly syrupy, alcohol not too present. Yeah just a bit too ascetic, decent lemon and fullness in mouth. 2.8/5.0. Re-rate 33cl bottle from Sainsburys Ashford. Clear orange gold colour with lasting thick white head. Good strong satsuma aroma hoppy. Really drinkable. Good fullness in mouth. Still a little of that ascetic hop flavour I got on cask. Aroma is good, mouthfeel is good. Just some pale malts in mouth so nothing too exciting. Finish could be a little better, but the sharp satsuma finish is good.

Cask gravity at Oxford Beer Festival 16-10-08 Pours golden in colour with good clarity. Taste is instantly quite sweet, malty actually quite honeylike flavours coming through? This is really flavoursome as you might expect from Castle Rock not in the usual crisp, light, hoppy, floral camp that a lot of their other golden beers fall into this is more of a big hitting beer with a good depth of flavour even if it is just a tad too sweet at times. There is also a tricky to detect spiciness, my first thought was nutmeg but not so sure. Its most enjoyable.
