De Koninck Winter is a stronger variation on the 'Bolleke'. It contains more dark and roasted malts (more plato's), also giving it a higher percentage of alcohol.

Draft at the Paters Vaetje, Antwerp. Poured a dark golden brown with a thin white head. The aroma is weak but dry and yeasty. The flavour is bitter with liquorice and a slightly metallic aftertaste. It's like a dark malt roasted regular De Koninck. I prefer the original.

As De koninck Winter, from beer-planet. clear brown, smooth light brown head. caramelly, toasty and malty aroma, very faint bitter hoppy note too. faint dried fruits , faint banana. Flavor is dried fruits, banana, bitter malts, malts, faint but well placed flowery hoppy balance.bordering on too sweet, but the bitterness, the flowers, the hops match the sweetness very well.

damn! wasnt expecting this to be good, realy, but it was ! bought at wijnegemse drankenhal this winter. i ’like’ koninck but i like palm better. and i like palm better than dobbel palm, so, logicaly i’d like this the least.. well its actualy the best. they took all the good caracteristic tastes of a koninck, isoladed it, made it stronger ( dont know WHAT they did but this is what it tasted like to me ) and its absolutely very well done . i wouldnt always drink this but i’ve tasted it withoud any regrets and i’l buy it again next year ! i did hear that this years version was good, but last years wastn.. so it’s kinda depending on the year i gues...

33cl bottle. Poured dark amber with a white head. Aroma is sweet fruity, some yeasty notes as well as weak hoppyness. Flavor is yeast, fruit and some herbal notes. Medium bodied, low carbonation. Average. Probably will not try again.

This time, doesn’t have such a perfect appearance and major mashy banana on the nose. Apart from this, basically the same. Previous rating 22/12/11 7+5+6+13 = 3.5 33cl bottle. Pours amber/red with fast steady bubbles and a very generous head. The nose has fudge and digestive biscuits. The taste has ginger biscuits and brown sugar, then charcoal at the end. The palate is medium bodied and textured with a nice dry finish. Overall, a nice beer.

draft – sampled @ De Groote Witte Arend: A: clear wine-hued brown with a white head – T: bitter winter spices, yeast, caramel malt, touch candy sugar, slightly sweet upfront with a bitter hop aftertaste with S being same as T- B: on the slightly light side – ok offering from the Koninck – seemingly oddly uncommon given the all-around presence of the regular one over here

Bottle at Chris O’s pre GBBF shindig. I’ve got ’13’ written down, no idea what that all means, maybe a new 13% version? If there is I can’t find it so I’ll rate what I had here! Dark brow pour with a beige head. Raisins, butterscotch, toffee and chocolate aroma. Caramel, chocolate and heavy malt presence. Heavy, sweet finish.
