The history of Braggot dates back centuries in northern Europe. Braggots are meads made with malted barley in addition to the honey. Our Braggot won a Bronze medal at the 2012 Great American Beer Festival. Brewed with wildflower honey and rich, dark specialty malts, the final product is akin to a Scottish Ale, with an added earthy depth and sweetness. Vinous notes combine with earthy flavors and a touch of toffee and biscuit character with just a hint of alcohol warmth. This is a complex sipper sure to warm even the coldest nights.

12 ounce bottle at De Garde. 12.8%. Pours a hazy brown color with no head. A big sticky sweet nose. Apples, honey, sugary sweet base, dates, apple liquor, some brown sugar. Decadent. Smooth, light heat. Good.

Keg@CBC2013 Dark amber color, small steady beige head. Green apple in the nose. Medium-bodied. Green apple, alcohol, not so much mead hear, more like malt liquerish feeling.

Draught at Erzbierschof, Bern
Dark mahogany color, small head. It’s a malty and caramelly brew, dry aroma and moderately sweet flavor, with an impression of oxidisation, nutty, and with ordinary bitterness.
Nothing impressive.

Sampled at Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2013 - Day 2, Session 2. Pours clear, copper-gold with a fine, khaki head. Honey and alcohol in the aroma. Medium to big sweet flavor with moderate honey character, some leaves and dry bread. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming to finish with moderate alcohol notes, sticky sugars, rich honey. Robust, tasty.

2011 Winter Solstice 12 ounce bottle courtesy of mikem409. Thanks! Who the hell puts a 16% mead in a 12 ounce bottle. Damn! Pours a hazy mild brown color with fine floating particles. Moderate legs and a weak attempt at a collar of head. Aroma of big toasted malts, caramel, honey. The taste is strong honey, citrus, dates, raisins, sugared fruits, caramel. Medium bodied, faint carbonation and definite presence of alcohol but it doesn’t come across as terribly boozy, which is a bit scary. This is very, very nice.
