Birdsong Platitudes is a further examination of blended, barrel-aged beer in both spirits and wine barrels. We took a simple Belgian-style blonde ale with turmeric added and lovingly aged it in both gin and French oak red wine barrels. Exuding aromatics of the garden, the olfactory is enticed with botanical whiffs of juniper, lavender, sage, and lemon verbena. Dry and lean in body, Birdsong Platitudes is graceful in the glass. We hope you'll appreciate our latest exploration into the art of fermentation and blending. Sante!

Poured from a 750 ml bottle. Aroma is very floral and herbal with hints of citrus and some light fruitiness. Light oak notes with green grapes, lemon and stone fruit. Quite a bit of floral lavender, sage and lemon verbena notes. Light juniper. Faint pepper and clove notes. Pours a fairly clear, bright, yellow gold with a small, thin, white head that recedes quickly to the edges where a few clumps linger for a bit. No lacing or legs. Flavor has a light sweetness with a medium light to light acidity and hints of grain and a dry finish. Medium light bitterness with light oak and tannins. Some light mineral notes. Medium light lemon and green grape notes with lighter stone fruit notes. Moderate floral and light herbal notes. Lemon verbena and lavender are most prevalent followed by the sage and juniper. Faint pepper notes. Mouthfeel is medium light to light bodied with medium low to low carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice beer but a bit more carbonation would help brighten the flavor and aroma. I was expecting a bit more gin character than I received, but sometimes the gin can overwhelm so this is well restrained.
