Vicaris Winter is a dark brown beer with a beautifully coloured head and rich aroma. Like the Vicaris Generaal, it is brewed using three varieties of malt and two hops. Our winter beer is the only Vicaris beer to which herbs are added and is therefore ideal for savouring during cold winter nights. The use of a specific yeast strain, the complexity of the malt varieties and the addition of liquorice and star anise give this beer the most complex flavour pallet of the whole Vicaris range.

Labeled '2017'. Pours hazy dark brown/red with a big, frothy, tan head. The aroma contains licorice, brown sugar, red & dark fruits, yeast & spices. It tastes light to medium sugary sweet, quickly light to medium spicy bitter; bit dry, hoppy and alcoholic in the finish, well-balanced. Full body, creamy texture, fizzy carbonation. Generally within the expectations of a Christmas beer, but balance is key here. Well done, Dilewyns.

Pour Noël Vicaris a bien fait les choses. Tous les ingrédients essentiel à une bière de Noël sont là : cette chaleur, cette douceur et ces épices essentielles pour passer un moment chaleureux. Aromatiquement, rien de fantaisiste ou réellement exceptionnel, mais une bière juste et bien équilibrée. Mon exemplaire datait de 2015 et méritait largement ses 2 années. En verre, nous sommes sur un brun foncé, paré de très fines bulles et d'une mousse brune de 5 mm. Au nez les épices ne se sentent que peu. Celui-ci fait davantage penser à une double avec pruneau, café, candi, légèrement chocolaté. On y ressent également bien l'alcool. Les épices se font quant à elles très discrètes. Ces dernière se font largement plus marquantes à l'attaque avec anis, girofle et coriandre. Café, pruneau et candi terminent l'équation avec une amertume conférant une petite fraîcheur appréciable pour cette entame. Mention spéciale pour la seconde bouche, que je trouve d'un très bel équilibre aromatique avec une alliance fruits/café/épices à la fois douce et de caractère. L'arrière bouche est légèrement plus amère mais toujours sur cette douceur fruité (pruneau). La troisième bouche laisse apparaître de très belles notes de porto avec un alcool qui s'affirme quelque peu avant un final long où l'on retrouve l'équilibre rencontrée en seconde bouche. L'alcool est parfait ainsi que le sucre bien dosé. Joyeux Noël en perspective.

Hyvin tummanruskea, kirkas olut kohtalaisella vaahdolla, jota jää pieni reunus nauttimisen ajaksi. Tuoksu ei ensialkuun tuntunut oikein miltään, mutta hetken päästä se aukeaa kunnolla. Siitä löytyy vahvalla otteella tummaa suklaata ja höysteenä kevyttä paahteisuuta. Maku paahteisen karamellinen, suklainen, hieman katkeran kahvinen ja mausteinen. Suutuntuma keskitäyteläinen ja runsashiilihappoinen. Makea, mutta toisaalta melko kuiva.

F: big, brownish, average lasting. C: dark brown with red tones against the light. A: chocolate malt, coffee, liquorice, brown sugar, raisins, prunes, light dark cherries, hint of alcohol, spicy, hint of cinnamon, nutmeg, light vinous. T: chocolate malt, dark dried fruits, plums, cherries, coffee, dark chocolate, raisins, cinnamon, caramel, molasses, vinous, very sweet but good balanced with full body, lower carbonation, worth to try, winter 2014, 0,33l bottle from Maenhout supermarket in Oostende.

330ml bottle. (As Vicaris Winter 2012) Pours a murky, dark reddish brown with plenty of sediment and a large, frothy, long lasting, tan head that laces. Sweet aroma of caramel malt, dried fruit, licorice, yeast and alcohol. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, dried fruit, brown sugar, licorice and warming alcohol leading to a dry, bitter, spicy finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Nice.

Dark brown to black colored, medium creamy tan head. Aroma is of chocolate, dark fruits, spicy, some banana and apple. Taste is caramel and brown sugary, medium+ sweetness, dark chocolate, spices, yeast, banana fruity finish, hint of alcohol like in boozy chocolate candy and some boozy warming sensation. Medium to full bodied, average carbonation. (bottle, ’t Brugs Beertje, Brugge)
