Smooth peanut butter meets dark coffee in this roasty porter. This Peanut Butter Victory at Sea is a nutty version of our popular imperial porter. We took our trademark robust porter brewed with Caffè Calabria coffee and vanilla and added peanut butter, adding another level to this roasty, flavorful beer.

Bottle. A really good beer. The peanut butter complimented the smooth roasted grains and coffee perfectly.

Bottled (Alko Web). Deep rubyish black colour with a mediumsized beigeish brown head. Aroma is sweet malts, chocolate, some alcohol as well as mild nutty tones. Flavour is kind of peanut butter meeting liquorice, chocolate, some roasted tones as well as a wee bit of alcohol too. Nice dessert beer.

Ok+

31.03.2019, tap @ Bishops Arms Vasagatan:
Nice fizzy-creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly sweet, mocha, grass, weeds, dark malts, caramel, fruit stones, cocoa, toast, bark, vanilla, espresso, dark sugar. Taste is slightly dry sour-ish mineraly, cocoa, bark, minerals, alcohol, weeds, paper, soil, mocha, dark malts, fruit stones, harsh vanilla, sour coffee. Medium to longlasting bitterness, slightly harsh sour-ish boozy mouthfeel. Nice aroma...

Bottle pour into tulip glass. Appearance is very dark brown--almost opaque black--and ruby (with light source directly behind), fair sparkle at the edges of the glass, finger width light brown foamy head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is decadent roasted malt/chocolate/coffee with mild peanut butter and booze. Taste is initial roasted malt/chocolate and coffee with fairly harsh alcohol, mild peanut butter. Palate is medium bodied with thick texture, soft carbonation, mild numbing of the lips and strong, pleasant alcohol warmth and finish as taste. Overall, the base Victory at Sea porter is so good you can do just about anything to it--the Victory at Sea with Fish Heads would probably do well--but the alcohol in this is a little harsh and could have benefitted from additional aging (born 10/3/18). The peanut butter could be a little higher in the mix.

Bottle. Pours an opaque brown/black color with a tiny tan head and poor retention. No lacing. Super dark roasted peanut butter aroma. Flavor is coffee dominant with barely enough peanut butter flavor to keep it drinkable. Semi-chalky mouthfeel. Disappointing flavor mix. Surprisingly smooth for 10.0% ABV though. Very well hidden. The 68 IBUs are well hidden too.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish, single to two centimetre tall light brown and tan head. Aroma of peanuts (of course), roasted malt, vanilla, light grain, some peated malt, a touch of oatmeal and a dose of tobacco. Medium-bodied; Strong roasted and almost burnt malts with a dose of chocolate (milk chocolate, around 50% cacao) with a deep nutty and grainy flavour showing a touch of vanilla and a big dose of peanuts towards the end. Aftertaste shows the grain at first, a lot of vanilla, some big oatmeal and malty notes with a strong note of nuts and full peanuts towards the very end. Overall, a nice enough beer that shows a lot of roasted and burnt malts with a good nutty finish, but not enough body or depth to make this truly 'imperial' or to show the pungency of all the alcohol (which is hidden very well). Interesting to try, but definitely not a keeper and a bit too thin already (when fresh) to consider aging this at all. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Kona Wine Market in Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i [island] on 29-December-2018 for US$11,00 sampled in my hotel room here in Kona, Hawa'i' [island] on 02-January-2019 on my second daughter's fourth birthday - Happy Birthday Paige!
