Smooth peanut butter meets dark coffee in this roasty porter. This Peanut Butter Victory at Sea is a nutty version of our popular imperial porter. We took our trademark robust porter brewed with Caffè Calabria coffee and vanilla and added peanut butter, adding another level to this roasty, flavorful beer.

Growler shared by Jack, thanks! Pours a near clear brown with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of peanut butter with a decently strong coffee note and dark grains supporting. Flavor is much more coffee forward with peanut butter supporting and dark grains underlying.

Dark black body has a touch of charred-mahogany on the edges and clarity is indeterminable. Tan head atop is small but modestly well-retained.
Espresso roast is loud and clear in the nose, with soft vanilla giving a reprieve to the heavy roasted character. Light caramel and various other dark malts manifest themselves but I would never guess peanut butter. Alcohol is well-concealed, perhaps just a faint touch of it with warming. No flaws.
Interestingly roasty, vanilla-laden and quite nutty, with very light, pleasant vinous suggestions, hints of burnt toffee and I’d like to believe, peanut butter. But again, don’t think I’d pick it out blindly, which is fine. Seems to add a bit more complexity to the beer. Tons of roast with moderate to moderately high bitterness on the finish, quite dry as well with just a touch of chocolate-vanilla and lightly sweet malts emerging with warming. Quite good! Not sumptuous, sticky, massive or intensely thick like an Imperial stout, but pretty nicely balanced and actually drinkable. Carbonation is moderate and texture ranges from bready to lightly slick at times. Alcohol pretty well under control.

4 oz pour on draft at ChurchKey. Dark brownish black with tan head. Aromas of peanut butter and roasty notes. Tastes of peanut butter, bitter roast, dark chocolate. Full body with a dry finish. Good integration.

On draught at Bob’s Bar. The beer pours black with a medium thick foamy tan head that diminishes gradually. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, peanuts and chocolate. Full-bodied with flavors of peanut butter cup, roast malt and coffee. The finish is roasty with a nutty and malty aftertaste. Good beer all around.

On draft at The Good Hop. It pours black with a creamy tan head. The aroma is creamy chocolate and light peanut butter. The flavor is also very creamy and smooth with light notes of peanuts, coffee and roasted malt. Strong earthy bitterness. Very nice mouthfeel. The peanuts are pretty subdued, but its there. A more restrained peanut butter beer than others I’ve tried.

On tap at Harry’s Hofbrau in San Jose. Pours near brown with a deep brown head. Taste marries chocolate and peanut butter together nicely. I have not normally like the new peanut butter beers, but this one is subtle and keeps the integrity of the base beer together. Pleasing.

Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA as"peanut butter cup" (I think). Pours dark brown/black with a beige head. Aroma is predominately peanut. Med body or better. Flavor reminds of Reeses peanut butter cups with the addition of some dark bitter malt. So far peanut butter in beer isn’t usually working fantastic for me.
