4oz pour at Max’s pours a muddy brown/black with some creamy, beige head. Nose has nuts, malt, molasses, nougat, a little dark chocolate. Flavor is chewy with malt and bread, toast, chocolate, light coffee. Dry finish. Solid.

Bouteille (0.5l): Literally black, smaller tanned foamy layer, moderate roasty nose, some berries, some chocolate detectable; almost robust bitter-sweet flavour, rounded by a delicate acidity, almost medium bodied and soft; lingering bitter-sweet chocolatey-fruity and roasty finish. Bottle, 500 ml at the Clachan, Dornie. Pours black with medium beige head. Roasted malts, coffee. Moderate sweetness with medium bitter finish. Medium bodied and soft carbonation. Balanced. So far the best one from Loch Ness.

Cask-conditioned at the Three Tuns, Bristol 26/1/2016. Near black with a hint of red and decent, beige, head. Sweetish dark fruits, a touch of chocolate, black coffee and a dryish finish. A good dark beer.

Cask (gravity) @ Nottingham Robin Hood Beer Festival (2014), Nottingham Castle, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England NG1 6EL. [ As Loch Ness Dark Ness ].Clear dark black brown color with a small to average, frothy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white to light beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, dark roasted, wood notes. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a long duration, roasted, malt bitter, dark roasted. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat. [20141009]

4 oz pour on cask at ChurchKey. Black with light tan head. Aromas of smoky notes, roast. Tastes of roast, smoky notes, chocolate. Medium-light body with a dry finish.

On cask at Max’s in Baltimore. Dense black color. Smoky roasted malt aroma. Cocoa and espresso notes. Rich and creamy mouthfeel. More smoky and coffee notes in finish with a touch of vanilla.

Sample at Tuesday Tasting at De Molen. Black beer, roasted aroma, smells like a bbq or something, coffee and chocolate in the aroma. Taste is the same, maybe a bit watery. ok beer.
