Kurofune (means "Black Ships") was the word the Japanese used to describe the American gunboats that came to open Japan to western trade. Kurofone Porter is sleek and forceful, but leaves a winning bittersweet taste of chocolate and coffee on the tongue. "Do not resist the superior might; cunningly acquiesce, and embrace." Kampai!

This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a nice dark brown close to black color with a thick foamy yet bubbly looking off white to white head dissipated within about less than thirty seconds. . Light lacing pervaded throughout.
The smell had a really nice sweet nutty roasty coffee to caramel to toffee to chocolate goodness.
The taste replicates the same as the smell.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a pretty good sessionability about it. The carbonation was good for the style as it just enough to be sharp but not overbearing at any resort. It leaves a nice creamy and smooth trickling sweetness rolling over my tongue.
Overall, hot damn, what a really nice porter I’d quickly have again.

Bottle at The Foundry (Mohamed Sultan Rd), Singapore
The color is dark brown, cloudy, with generous beige head. The aroma is chocolatey (like a chocolate bar for cooking). Lean and dry mouthfeel; the roasted malt and chocolate flavor are in balance, although there is as usual a light yeast and dust touch in the end; correct bitterness.
More a Brown Ale, quite good though.

Draft - Roast malts and dark chocolate. Jet black with a small beige head. Lots of grains and roasted malts with a bit of coffee. Very basic porter without too much complexity.

6% bottle from Rakuten. A dark black pour with a beige head. a black body with a beige head, the aroma is chocolate & cocoa while the taste is roast coffee bitterness & chocolate sweetness. A tasty porter with a smooth mouthfeel. As it warms up you get some smokey bacon notes.

5 oz. glass on Draft @ When Pigs Fly. Black color with thin beige head. Nose is light hints of chocolate and coffee. Flavor is lightly sweet, medium coffee bitterness. Light sugar. Medium body, light watery texture, low carbonation. Needs a bit more body. Ok overall, decent to try. Don’t need to seek it out again.
