2 * 330 ml. bottle’s @ ’t Antwaerps Bierhuyske. #5 & #6 side-by-side. Appearance is the same for both version, Quite hazy touch darker orange, rather big creamy white head. Nose is fruity yeast, ripe apricot, very creamy, #5 bitter grass, seems to dominate a bit more in typical De La Senne style, floral bitter, #6 is a bit heavier on yeast, sugar, pear, more yeast forward but the more you compare, the smaller the difference seems to become. Both appear to be very creamy. Taste of #5 is more bitter grass in typical De La Senne fashion, floral bitter, creamy overripe fruits, pear, apricot, big creamy yeast but it doesn’t dominate, #6 seems to be more yeasty, more sweetness, less bitter grass,… The more you taste, the more you pallet adjusts & the less the difference seems to become but #5 appears to be my favorite, more bitter grass, floral hop seems to lead to a better balance, the fact that both are rather close is impressive on its own,… Still I hope that all of these experiments won’t lead to Taras Boulba with freeze dried hops or they already have & I haven’t noticed the difference. Body-wise both appear to be the same, wonderfully creamy, light yeast presence.
