Aroma of citrus peel, slightly sour lemon, yeasty notes. Flavour is moderate tart with a light bitter finish. Nicely refreshing and easily drinkable, pretty good Witbier.

Bottle from de Molen beershop, bottled 31/09/2014 BB 31/03/2015, large sample. Hazy to cloudy golden color, short frothy white head. Aroma is quite fruity, lemon zest, orange, citrus, spicy, bit peppery even, some grainy wheat. Quite fruity in taste, slight tart even. Bit dry in the finish. On the spicy side for a witbier with a twist of tart lemon and orange, like a lemon cheesecake. Not as full on wheat in flavor as most other witbiers.

An English take on the Belgian witbier style, with snow white, rather thin and loose head and cloudy, egg-like yellow colour with somewhat greenish hue, a bit darker than usual for the style. Aroma of lots of wheat, lemon zest, soap, green plums, coriander, gooseberries, hint of fresh orange juice, lots of baker’s yeast especially after adding the deposit, floral and herbal hops, talcum, earth. Crisp taste, sweetish and fruity in onset, citric, with indeed vividly sourish impressions of both lemon and orange juice, very refreshing on a sunny spring day like this; quite spritzy carbonation, supple but somewhat powdery, yeasty mouthfeel; wheat sourishness underneath with a hint of bready malts, lightly drying coriander effect but subtle; the citrus gets all the credit here and blends in nicely with the wheat. Somewhat yeasty finish, drying a bit due to the citric acidity and very lightly, subtly bitter from floral, earthy hops providing balance and structure. This is a very good example of the style, ’pimped’ with a refreshing citric acidity, extremely quenching; I am not witbier’s biggest fan, but I find this better than many Belgian examples, which usually do little more than trying to imitate the Hoegaarden standard. This one, like some Wallonian witbiers, is a bit different and in that sense quite interesting.

Bottle. Pale hazy yellow, fine carbonation, white head. Somewhat dusty citrus and spice aroma. Tart, lactic and citric base, pleasant lemon notes, roses, light spice. Medium light, slightly fizzy body. Quick refreshing finish. Not sure the sourness is intentional, but it works just fine as a cross between a with and a Berliner Weisse.

Draught @ Brewdog Helsinki

Pours hazy yellowish with a small head. Aroma of fruits, orange, lemon, grapefruit and citrus. Taste is smooth, slightly tartish and spicy with hints of orange, citrus, lemon and grapefruit. Finish is a bit stuffy and slightly watery with hints of juicy fruits and tartness. A bit unbalanced. Not super refreshing or juicy, but a bit stuffy.

Draught @ BrewDog, Helsinki. Thanks tonagi! Aroma has grass, citrus and cereal. Flavour has strong, tart lemon notes, some yeastiness and cereal. Also mellow spicy notes. This is not my kind of tartness.
