Rodenbach Alexander was brewed for the first time in 1986 on the occasion of Alexander Rodenbach’s 200th birthday . It is a blend of 2/3rd aged Rodenbach (100% 2 year aged beer) with 1/3rd younger ale, macerated with sour cherries. The natural flavour and taste of sour cherries brings a perfect match between the sour beer and the red fruit. Its aftertaste is reminiscent of a Burgundy wine and its freshness makes this beer the perfect aperitif or accompaniment to cheeses or dessert.

Bottle @ De Heeren van Liedekercke. Vintage 1998. Clear reddish brown with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, dried fruit, port and oxidated. Flavor is quite sweet and light acidic. Dry and light acidic finish. Went really well with my stoofvlees. I kept a little in the glass for most of the evening just to have a smell once in a while :o) 20072012 --- Had the 2016 version twice on tap, and it’s really nice as well. Much more aggressive and fruity compared to the 1998 version.

Vintage bottle at DHVL shared. Pours clear amber with a bubbly ring tan head. Aroma of big sherry notes up front, a touch of cheese, light mould, oxidization, toffee, woody notes and light tart overripe dark fruits. Flavour is over moderate sweet and moderate sour. Big sherry sweet palate developing into a sharp citric touch in the finish. Over medium bodied with near flat carbonation. Very nice and has held up well after all the years.
