Originally founded in 1132, Quarr Abbey is home to a community of Benedictine monks. The Benedictine way of life is one of devotion to prayer, work and hospitality. The Abbey grounds are cultivated by the monks to grow a bountiful supply of fresh food for their own sustenance and to share with the local community. Abbey beers have been brewed by monks for centuries utilising locally grown herbs, malt and barley. Quarr Abbey Ale is brewed to capture the essence of these traditional Abbey Beers and uses coriander and sweet gale grown in the abbey’s own gardens. Find out more here.

330ml bottle @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, Nov 19. Thanks Mike for this. Pours clear mahogany, off white froth atop. Herbal nose, good fruity dark malts. Nice fruity dubbel character, the herbal notes working well with the sweet elements. Really rather good.

11th Nov 2019; Beer Share Evening in Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury. Cheers Mike for the bottle of this. Clear deep amber body, wispy white head. Really enjoyed the malty sweetness of this beer, some liquorice and coriander like flavours in the taste.

Very pleasant, this.Fruity malt smell. Tastes of dried fruit, caramel, a little banana, a bit of hop and rich malty flavour and it's really smooth as well. Far too drinkable for the ABV. Very nice.

Bottle from Godshill Cider Barn. Nice head with good duration. Color is maber. Aroma and taste are caramel, toffee, sweet malt, belgian yeast, hops and has a sweet yeasty malty finish. More like an attempt of a dubbel than as an english strong ale.

Bottle shared on the old train on the Isle of Wight. Pours clear amber-gold with a white cream topping. The nose has some simple notes of caramel and toffee. Medium sweet flavor with mild butterscotch, bread, faint yeast, dough, caramel. Low bitterness. Medium bodied with fine carbonation and creamy mouthfeel. Sweet finish with more doughy malts and bread, ripe fruits, mellow alcohol warmth. A very decent Belgian ale.
