We've taught an old brown new tricks. The brunette hue is derived from roasted Belgian aromatic malts, and fruity esters are augmented by lemon and orange zest. For a further twist, Brettanomyces induced secondary fermentation flecked with sour cherries, raisins, cranberries, figs, dates, and currants for a mildly acidic ale. Enjoy this gift now, or for even freakier, age it somewhere dark for the ultimate re-gift.

On tap at the Lumsden. Aroma is big sweet cherries. Flavour is big and boozy. A little sour, a little bread, and a whole host of fruit. Raisins, cherries, figs and all doused in spiced brandy. Warming.

Draft @ Growler Guys. Muddy reddish brown pour. Nose is sweet, vanilla and cherries. A bit vinous and sour oak notes. Tastes full of sour and sweet, lots of oak and vinous bits with some more vanilla and fruit. Really nice sour red.

Bottle shared by Ken at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours brown, no head, orange glints. Aroma is mildly sour with fruit/cherry notes. Med body or better. Flavor is slightly sour red berry, arguably cherry, with an odd touch of chocolate - like often found in US browns, but not so much in Flemish ales. Finishes towards sour, not very dry, not very bitter, and I think a bit maltier than usual for the style. Nice ale!

On tap at Brouwer's Cafe for Big Wood 2014, pours a hazy dark orangey amber with a small beige head. Aroma is unusual, with notes of whiskey, vomit, and sour fruits. Flavour is sweet and sour, with notes of tart fruits, brown sugar and toffee. A little weird, but very nicely balanced. Sweeter than most Oud Bruins, but very nice. Enjoyable stuff.

2013 bottle pour at the brewery. Pours a dark red color with a thin patchy head. A slight sour cherry aroma. Really easy drinking mellow sour fruit flavor with cherry and maybe a bit of plum. Finishes sour with a tiny bit of spice. Amazing beer here.
