St-Ambroise Russian Imperial Stout is Quebec’s tribute to the late 1700’s English Imperial Stouts, brewed for the Russian courts of Catherine the Great.
Made from a blend of barley malts, St-Ambroise Russian Imperial Stout is infused with Cascade, Goldings and Willamette hops, resulting in an outstanding hop-character with a smooth finish. Bourbon wood-aged, this full-bodied ale has a rich, smoky aroma with hints of vanilla, expresso and chocolate.
Serve St-Ambroise Russian Imperial Stout between 13°C and 15°C, preferably in a port glass or a brandy snifter. This stout will improve with age for a number of years. Store in a cool, dark place.

Poured from 473mL can (2025 vintage). Black with full tan head. Lightly fruity roasted malt with dry ashy character, hint of chocolate, has a nice balance between the sweetness and dry bitterness. Only criticism is just a touch too ashy, otherwise quite nice. Great at $3.60/can price point.

Bottle courtesy of Fred !
Jet black pour, beautiful mocha head. The barrel ageing is evident, lots of oak, vanilla and a touch of boozey goodness. Flavor is intensly roasty, with loads of chocolate, and coffee. The barrel ageing is there in thd finish also, some great wood and vanilla, with a big roasty finish. I loved their regular oatmeal stout, and this seems like a ramped up version of it with some barrell ageing added. Outstanding beer!!!

Bottle from LCBO in Toronto at home in HK. Think I’ve had this before - I thought when I bought it that it was a different release. Thick black pour with thin medium tan head. Aroma is big roasted coffee leather and wood, and boozy warmth. Taste is similar - big sharp bitterness at the beginning, rich chocolate and coffee, with leather and alcohol. Palate not that rich, good. Lingering earthy bitterness. Very good stout, and would get again but probably not bring home from Canada.

341ml bottle. Pours an opaque black with a small, short lived, dark brown head that leaves spotty lacing. Sweet aroma of roasted malt, chocolate malt, bourbon, oak, peat and a hint of vanilla. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, dark chocolate, espresso, soya sauce, peat, oak and a hint of vanilla with a dry, bitter, bourbon finish. Full body with a creamy, smooth, oily texture and soft carbonation. Excellent, probably the best beer they make.

Bottle. Heavy roast. Thick, heavy palate. heavily roasted and a good palate, bit it would benefit from some complexity in the flsvor.

Black color with inch thick beige head. Aroma is vanilla, dark chocolate, coffee, fantastic. Taste is similar, but not thick enough for this beer. Bitter finish. Still good stuff.
