St-Ambroise Russian Imperial Stout is Quebec’s tribute to the late 1700’s English Imperial Stouts, brewed for the Russian courts of Catherine the Great.
Made from a blend of barley malts, St-Ambroise Russian Imperial Stout is infused with Cascade, Goldings and Willamette hops, resulting in an outstanding hop-character with a smooth finish. Bourbon wood-aged, this full-bodied ale has a rich, smoky aroma with hints of vanilla, expresso and chocolate.
Serve St-Ambroise Russian Imperial Stout between 13°C and 15°C, preferably in a port glass or a brandy snifter. This stout will improve with age for a number of years. Store in a cool, dark place.

Bottle from a trade. Many thanks! Black colour, dark brown foam. Soft carbonation. Very bitter aroma of roasted malts and dark chocolate. Subtle bourbon aftertaste with some hints of vanilla. Bitter with light sweet hints. Great!

Pours dark black, brown foam, leaving some beautiful lacings. Cherries, coffee, chocolate and cocoa, sweet bourbon aroma. Taste is really well balanced, toasted, chocolate, cherry liquer, thick bourbin flavour. Roast bitterness lingers for longer. Vanilla. Chocolate. Amazing.

Pours a very dark brown head with darkness of a black hole underneath. Cherries, bourbon, oak in the nose. The mouth is totally fantastic with bourbon, dark chcolate oak, dark fruit, not too sweet like many barrel aged beers. The mouth is superbly well balanced. Big lingering bourbon and treacles in the finish. Excellent.

Bottle, Saint-Ambroise Russian Imperial Stout 2013 An inky black pour with a rusty head that has lots of staying power. The nose is licorice, sweet bourbon & dark chocolate. Surprisingly thin bodied with a slick mouthfeel. Very bitter dark chocolate, roasty, some maple & bourbon. Not as nice as expected but still solid.

341 ml. bottle shared by Kraddel during the (Ice) Cider/Perry tasting @ Barely Legal Tasting Room. Thank you! 2011 Vintage. Black, tiny mocha head. Nose is chocolate chip cookies, mocha, light roast & faint soy sauce. Taste of chocolate chip cookies, roast, bitter coffee grounds, tad soy sauce, coffee, bitter finish. Lingering grainy. Lighter, tad grainy body. A different kind of RIS, very nice.

Bottle at the DTE tasting, Den Haag. Poured a murky dark brown with a thin tan head. The aroma is resin hop with a little band aid. The flavour is veggie light sour, moderate bitter with a big dry hop mineral bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
