Draft: Poured a chocolate color with red hue edges. Head is tan. Aroma is dark malts, spices, Taste is complex with sour fruit, sweet malts, tinglely spices that leave palate confused. The alcohol is well hidden. Very nice beer for 6 years old.

Opaque black beer, thick tan head. Light airy palate, just a little crisp. Fresh tart fruit, coca cola, Dr Pepper and sharp citrus. A little floral sweetness underneath. Finishes light and dry. Incredibly fruity for a dark beer and a gruit to boot! Much less floral and herby than other Gruits I’ve had. Hides the 13.0% abv very well.

Bottle thanks to ditmier for sharing this with me. Pours out dark brown with some red highlights topped with almost no head. Aroma of spice, berries, pit fruit, rich malts, and wood. Taste pretty much the same as the aroma but with a little more fruit and malt. Thanks again Eric

Courtesy of tpd975. What? A 12% Gruit? Bomber pours amber – brown with copper edges and tan head. The aroma is pretty bold with spices, cherries, black strap molasses, red wine grapiness and cotton shirt. Interesting to say the least. The taste begins with a dash of dark fruitiness moving into a mix of spices, red wine, some mild earthiness and crusty dried out caramel. Wow! Hides the massive ABV very well.

There were few large bottles of this at Logan’s pre-GABF party. I had several samples trying to figure it out. Pour is a dead flat muddled brown. Aroma is big citrus fruit, dried fruit sweetness, pine juniper and a decent amount of alcohol. The taste is quite arresting, tasted liked soured prune juice, mixed with tart sweet cranberry juice, mixed with pine needles and a shot of grain alcohol to finish it off. Also some chocolate notes. Palate is as flat as the appearance, with alcohol coming through strong. I am VERY inexperienced rater of Gruits, but this one did little for me..

Bottle thanks to Americanbrew. Pours with a tan, frothy head over a very dark brown body. Aroma of maple, molasses, alcohol, rummy, banana esters, leather and spice. Taste is very sweet with berries, thyme, alcohol, molasses, a light tart notes, spruce, orange and a bit salty. Alcohol on the palate, light bubbles.
