Cask at Lodge, Alsager. Pours “bitter brown” with a small scummy off-white head and excellent lacing. There’s rich tea biscuits and tangerines in the aroma. In the mouth it is quite sweet but with some underlying bitterness. Malts and floral hops dominate the flavour but there’s also caramel and hints of citrus and dried fruit. Traces of spice and herbs come through later as well. Finish is fruity and quite dry. This is a decent old school bitter.

Bottle from Waitrose. Clear copper coloured pour with decent looking off-white head. Biscuit, grain and grassy to hay aroma with a hint of spice. Taste of biscuit, bread, hint of Autumn fruit and quite a notable bitter herbal hop finish. Light+ bodied but has a certain slickness and soft carb, semi-drying. Good.
