A one pint can purchased at the Total Wine on Hulen St. in Fort Worth. I don’t see an imperial amber ale often so I’ve been anticipating this tasting. I have the Cowtown tulip glass in place for a pour and that is what I do. The body is dark cardinal red completed by a tall head of creamy parchment tan foam. I smell plenty of grain and a small bit of hops. The taste is more substantial, I get toasted bread, some cedar pine, a touch of caramel sweetness, cardboard and a nice little bitterness concluding. The lacing has to be pointed out, best I’ve encountered in some time. As good as I hoped for and that doesn’t happen frequently.

On tap @Thirsty. Free hotel shuttle! Clear, ruby, dense oatmeal head goblet pour. Spiced, slightly fatty, oaty, rustic nose. Silky head. Bitter, very rindy, sharp bread crust, big acidity, fatty, slightly soapy, earthy bitter finish. Great.

Definitely malt forward red but also plenty hoppy. Nice.

Big alcohol. Rather cloying. Mostly clear garnet with minimal off-white head. A little disjointed.

Keg at Ginger Man, Plano. Cloudy copper colour, mid sized creamy head. Perfumy nose with figs and toast. Mid sweet with full body and dense, packed mouthfeel. Toast and dates, some pine. Resiny very bitter finish. A brutal, straight forward beer. Think Ace of Spades or Jesus Built My Hotrod.

Draft: Poured a dark brown Amber with tan head. Nice underling hops and malt aroma. Taste is hops, toasted malts very balanced and yet hides the 9% well.

Sampled at the 2014 Untapped festival in Fort Worth. Pours a hazy amber with a yellowish brown head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has sweet grains, a touch of resin, caramel and a bit of cookie. Flavor has sweet grains and resin with a bit of caramel coming through in the finish.
