Bottle from Brewery Creek, Vancouver
Hazy amber color with compact beige head. Good depth of malts, good body structure, the right sweetness, elegant all round, but also with a strange ester and soap aroma, candies, so I wonder which yeast was used here, and if the mild sourness comes from the spelt or because it’s not too fresh.
But it’s a very positive experience.

22 oz bottle poured at a tasting. Best by 6/17/15. Oops. Did this keep fermenting in the bottle? Tastes even stronger than the already sturdy abv offering, and it’s hardly close. Caramel amber color. Comes off as a barleywine. Tomato juice barleywine? Wheat finish. Need to try a fresh bottle of this. I’ll actively seek one out if possible, and rerate. All things considered, pretty good.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 6/17/2015. Pours slightly hazy deep ruby red/copper color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big raisin, plum, apple, lemon, orange, banana, clove, bubblegum, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toast, light herbal, light nuttiness, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and fruity/spicy yeast notes; with good strength. Taste of big raisin, plum, apple, lemon, orange, banana, clove, bubblegum, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toast, light herbal, light nuttiness, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Fair amount of earthy yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, plum, apple, lemon, orange, banana, clove, bubblegum, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toast, light nuttiness, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity and robustness of dark/bready malt and fruity/spicy yeast flavors; with an awesome malt/yeast balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth and fairly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming lingering after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice weizen bock style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt and fruity/spicy yeast flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle: Dark copper color with a thin ring of beige head. Nose has a little bit of spice, but mostly malty and fruity sweetness. Banana comes out in the taste, albeit lightly, with more malty and fruity sweetness. More of a pitted fruit taste… can’t nail it down to one thing. Finishes creamy and I like way the modest level of cloves works with the fruit and malty sweetness. Decent.
