The beer is brewed by Daniel Westmoreland from the Williamsburg, Va. brewery and was developed in collaboration with brewmasters Mike Anderson in Jacksonville, Fla. and Dan Kahn in Cartersville, Ga.
“We took staves from fresh bourbon barrels and we aged the beer on those staves and spiced it with a hint of vanilla,” said Westmoreland, who has been a Budweiser brewmaster for more than 30 years. “It’s an all-malt brew, and it has a perfect color that is similar to the color of bourbon itself. Batch No. 23185 has a nice vanilla aroma with a little oakiness on the end – it’s a great beer.”

This is what you buy on Christmas Day when you are in a no mans land of good beer and the only thing open is a gas station. Clear, light copper with a small and quickly dissipating head. Sweet malty aroma, light chocolate, and caramel, too. Flavor is malty. Light chocolate malts, and a bit of molasses. FInish has a bit of bready malt and sweetness. I’m surprised at how not terrible it is. I have had worse beers from better breweries.... Still, not a lot going on and mostly just sweet malts. Eh.

Bottle. Light sweet grainy malt and vanilla aroma. Clear honey gold with a large ivory head. Grainy malt flavor. I know it’s supposed to be in there, but I just can’t taste any vanilla or oak. Just another lager.

Bottle from Total Wine West Richmond, VA. Pours a clear amber color with a large foamy white head. Decent head retention. Aroma of grainy malts and the mildest oak you can imagine. The taste is grainy malts, vanilla, faint whisky and faint bourbon. Grassy hops. Thin-medium bodied. Bland and weak, but not bad.

Pours a deep golden color with a good sized meringue heads that shows great retention and leaves a fair amount of lace. Smells of vanilla up front on top of very faint wood and a sweet grainy honey maltiness. Extremely light spicy hop aroma. The flavor is malty sweet with a rich almost caramel flavor atop some grain and honey. The vanilla and oak are quite subtle in the flavor but you can catch fleeting glimpses here and there. Medium body with a moderate to high level of carbonation and a creamy bubbly mouthfeel. Not a bad beer, in fact this might be my favorite mega brewery beer yet. I’d still buy something else before I picked this up again.

Bottle: Poured a golden color with a golden to light copper color with a fast dissipating white head. Aroma is buttery and bubblegum. Taste is a watery malt with not much to it.

12 oz bottle from the variety pack. Pours clear copper with a diminishing off-white head. Aroma consists of faint wood, faint vanilla. Taste is very vanilla, savory with a dry finish. It’s watery, like all three beers in the pack. Mouthfeel is creamy, body is thin, and the carbonation is average. This is by far the most out-there and interesting beer of the three, and by far the best. It tastes good, but how much better would it have been with a bigger body?

Bottle from a Grocery Outlet. Pours clear amber with a transient off-white head. Aroma is hints of bourbon with some vanilla. Near med body. Flavor is light caramel with some vanilla. With time there’s hints of bourbon and some oaky astringency. Makes me think of Innis & Gunn. This is a pretty nice little beer.

Bottle. Sweet artificial cherry and vanilla malt aroma. Golden yellow with small head. Very light sweet barley malt and vanilla flavor. Medium body. Not a fan of the aroma and not much in the flavor department - I’m shocked.

Drank at GABF 2012. Pours a clear amber color with a medium white head. A sweet nose of grains and some yeast. Very light flavor: certainly little bourbon beyond some oak and vanilla, crisp, earthy. Decent.
