Bottle courtesy of rlgk. Pours very dark reddish brown with a small bubbly beige head that quickly dissipates while leaving a small trace on the glass. Smell is malty, floral and tiny fruity with roasted malts, pine needles, resinous wood, cereal, caramel, grapefruit juice, celery, watered down coffee, alcohol and hints of black pepper corns. Taste is bitter and malty with roasted malts, stale grapefruit juice, pine needles, resinous wood, silage, cedar, watered down coffee, alcohol, cocoa powder, moist soil, peat, overripe tropical fruits, oatmeal cookies and hints of pepper corns. Mouthfeel is astringent, oily bitter and medium to full bodied. finish is bitter and malty with roasted malts, grapefruit rinds, banana bread, lemon zest, silage, watered down coffee, cedar and peat. Weird and not my cup of tea...

Black colour, cream head. Aroma of whisky, ash, peat, hops, coffee, chocolate, Islay. Quite bitter flavour, coffee, roasted malts, Islay whisky, peat, ash, cacao, hops notes. Finish liquorice, roasted malts, ash, peat. Great brew, the Islay barrel aging really gives it a great finish. This beer makes me happy.

5/IX/13 - 33cl bottle from Biernavigatie (webshop, NL) @ home - BB: XII/2014 (2013-828)

Clear dark brown to black beer, creamy irregular beige head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing. Aroma: lots of caramel, some vanilla, bourbon, alcohol, chocolate, peated whisky, mocha, coffee, bit of chloride. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: sugary and sweet start, some vanilla, caramel, pretty bitter, whisky. Aftertaste: sugary, caramel, bitter hops, some citrus, lots of peated whisky, bit chemical, chloride, touch of disinfectant. I had hoped the "regular" B&T would be not barrel aged, but I was wrong...

Bottle from the brewery. Poured a deep mahogany colour with a thin off-white head. The aroma is medicinal with alcohol, leading to a strong bitter flavour with a lots of roasted malt, alcohol liqourice and "band-aid" on the very sharp and strong palate. I can’t say i’ve ever tasted a Black and Tan that was this medicinal and I don’t think i’ll be buying more on this basis. However, I note that nobody else has reported the medicinal edge to this beer, so maybe it’s infected. It’s was a fresh bottle bought directly from the brewery less than a month ago though.

330ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with average, creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, tan head. Aroma of old buckskin, oak, tobacco, peat, hooch. Taste is initially for a glimpse fruity hoppy and minimally sweet dark malty, but instantaneous killed by the whisky notes: leather, oak, peat. Slightly too much whisky, though not so completely overdone as many other BA beers.

Bottle @ home shared with Dutchdrebus. Dark brown to black, but not entirely black cause a dark red glare comes through when held into the light. Small to medium sized beige head. Smell malts, peat, islay whisky, lightly alcohol, wood, earth, tar. Taste malts, light to moderately bitter, wood, peat, islay whisky, earth, tar and even some hops. Low carbonation, medium to full body.

33 cl. bottle @ home. Lightly bordeaux hued, very dark brown with lightly tanned, milky bubbles for a head. The nose carries a lot of medicinal peat, not over the top but clearly felts with some roasted malt and roasted chocolate beans, light sweetness. Taste is peat, peated earth, charcoal, scorched earth, burned malts, ashes, burned coffee and some creamy chocolate and coffee in the back + sweetness which masks some of the peat, ash, burned stuff etc. Not a full-out attack but everything is there. Creamy body. Some mixed feelings here, this is not bad but from as exhilarating as the peated ones were from the White Label series were, also the name is quite confusing for me. Maybe too high expectations.
